they all are autobots.

An odd thought crossed my mind. remember when prime and the others introduced themselves to the humans and said "we're autobots, autonymous robots". That got me thinking, first aren't decepticons autonymous robots too? and second. Could Autobots be the SPECIES name in the movie universe and not a faction name?

I had a similar thought. Perhaps the Decepticons didn't want to be associated with the Autobots, maybe they purposely changed their name.

I guess Autobots could be the original name for all of them. Prime did say Megatron rebelled against them. Perhaps it was then that they came up with the name Decepticons.

I think what I'm trying to say here is.... I don't know.

Their species name was a Cybertronian, they were divided because a Decepticon is also group from the Military units who have risen to power and wants to be a dominant species in the universe, it's like StarWars, AutoBots were the rebels per se'
decepticons will use their planet to commence their conquest unfortunately there were citizens who want peace over Tyranny who persistently block the decepticons goal.

EHen Prime says, You have given me no choice my brother, it's like when you live on the same countrym you call your fellow african brother bec you were distinct to each other, same heritage & same roots.

I thought about that too. especially when Prime says "those who followed Megatron took the name Decepticons" or words to that effect.

i see it as they are all autonomous robots..but megatron wanted power so he began a new group to try and fight for power. then they decided to make the factions to divide the too groups that are fighting for power.

Is it possible in this continuity that Megs and Prime are actually literal brothers?

Also, I think the race name is 'Cybertronian', the Autobots are the faction Prime formed IN RESPONSE to Meg's forming the Decepticons.

Or, the Autobots is the original name, and the Decepticons are the seperatists.

Indeed. Cybertronion, Transformer brother... not an ACTUAL brother.... Thats tarded. Besides, use your brains man. How can a metalic robot have a brother, when he has no mother? or father? >_> Dont be stupid now people.

Just like you guys are my human brothers/sisters.

Simply put.

I was thinking about it the other day after seeing it a second time. It reminded me of how the Japanese G1 series were, with the Cybertrons and the Destrons. The Autobots (Cybertrons) were just named after their planet, with the Decepticons (Destrons) taking a name to seperate themselves. Kind of like humans take the name of a religion, or country, etc. It kind of helps give a purpose to "'til all are one". Till all are Cybertronians and not following different factions?

Um... maybe they're created from the same Spark?? Constructed somehow with the same purpose or a dualistic purpose of Fairness/Justice (as seen in the prequel comic)?? Who knows? Why such certainty on your part?

No one said Prime/Megs had a mother or father, or are even biological for that matter. Let some discussion to go around.

Maybe the autobots branded them the "Decepticons" and they ran with it.

Do you actually believe this? I mean maybe im too much of a "fan of the old". Ive not seen it in any series or whatever when they have been called brothers.

But i guess i should accept it... seeing as its a new story. Bah i dunno, i think the idea is pretty silly. I mean if they were made from the same spark, "the heart" then why would then end up so different?

Dont forget, its not a Brain per sé its a life force.

I'm open to suggestions. I don't think it's TRUE, but I don't think alternative views are retarded, nor do I think other people speculating on canon possibilities are being stupid.

The relationship between Megatron and Prime in this universe seems to be slightly different to simply 'leader of Decepticons' and 'leader of autobots', as it usually has been before the movie. Given that the two seem to serve more of a dualistic function than ever (that is, until Megatron betrayed Prime), they might have been created by someone/something to rule Cybertron. All I'm saying is that no speculation is retarded, especially with so few resources, a lot of things are possible.

Why would they end up so different? Something went wrong with Megatron, although he did a good job of hiding it until he attacked, according to the prequel comic. Optimus Prime definitely designates perhaps the Supreme Commander rank on Cybertron, whereas Megatron was known as Lord High Protector. Hm... from 'Emperor of Destruction' to ex-Lord High Protector in this canon? Megs is definetly different in some way to past Megatrons. Although that might not mean anything, it might mean little more than a different take on the history of Cybertron.

Again, this is mainly speculation pieced together via the movie, the prequel comic, and the movie comic. In the comic it seems that instead of Prime simply yelling 'Megatron!!!' and Megatron yelling 'Prime!!!' and Megs transforms into the jet and Prime leaps and grabs him, as in the movie, they actually greet each other by 'Hello, brother'. Does this imply anything? Maybe, maybe not.

IF any of this is true, I personally think it's pretty cool. But give the story more time to expand. Heck, this might all be wrong and it ends up being an attempt to return to a story similar to G1. However, with the setup of the prequel comic, and the movie itself (G1 guys crash on Earth by accident millions of years ago, whereas in the movie they arrive in the modern world with a specific purpose of getting the Allspark) I don't think it will be very probable.

This is from Mgeatron's entry in the Transformers wiki:

* According to a line of dialogue from the Autobot version of the Movie Nintendo DS game, Megatron "took the spark" of his and Optimus' father. Who that was and what that means remains a mystery.

Way back in G1, Sunstreaker and Sideswipe are referred to as brothers, so TFs being related is not a new concept.

It is no surprise that if Prime and Megs are brothers they would end up so different. Look at twins, for example. My cousins are exact opposites. One is all law obeying, and good, while his brother is always being arrested for stuff. They both came from the same egg and sperm, but are completely different.

Good point, the way Optimus descrbed it to sam when they first met, made it seem that thier species as a whole were autobots.

prime also said that Megatron turned on them and dessimated the planet-deception-to turn on or betray..or not trustworthy-decepticons

The decepticons were the group of autobots that sided with Megs and helped him destroy everything

In the last issue of the MTMTE Books Dreamwave put out Fuhrman tackles this and states that yes everyone was considered an Autobot before Megatron started the Decepticons.

After that Many took up the Decepticon mantle and many stopped affillitating themselves as autobots (neutrals).

Funny how the name TransFormer isn't uttered at one point during the movie

(except for Ron Witwicky referring to an actual transformer e.g. not the shapeshifting robot kind)

Autobot could very well be the new equal of Cybertronian and Decepticons could be the deserters. But it's indeed equally possible the Autobots rebelled against the Decepticon forces.
