Slowly go from big, to bigger, to massive, and not only make yourself look good by topping yourself in front od the audience each time, but give the guys at ILM time to slowly perfect a new art.
T1- Introduce the base cast= 30' robots
T2- Introduce the Dinobots and Devastator= 90' robots
T3- Introduce Metroplex (the beloved carrier) and Trypticron (even better hulking monstrocity)= 200' robots
T4- Complex battles (with many, many TF's and pan-outs)
T5- Space Battles (Total CGI)
T6- Unicron= Coup d' gras
While I agree with your stance on "building-up" from movie to movie,
at the same time, I'd say stretching it out to 6 movies is too much.
If each movie (from 2 or 3 on) is TOTALLY action-packed, with minimal human storyline,
people are going to complain that the movies are too predictable and similar, drawn-out, etc.
People, maybe even fans may say,
"How many movies of battling robots do we need?"
Are there enough characters to make each movie unique?
Possibly.
But my opinion is just throw more of them into the same movies.
And I understand one may argue,
"adding 6-8+ new characters in one movie doesn't allow each one to 'shine' enough".
BUT, I think part of that solution is
#1 Get rid of too much human storyline. They should be secondary to the TF's.
#2 Remember, some of the characters never had the chance to show a lot of personality anyway.
If you're gonna have all 6 Constructicons in a movie,
there's no reason to give each one a ton of dialogue.
Show all of them in a couple battle scenes, a little dialogue, and forming Devastator in a mind-blowing battle,
and that should be enough. Not to mention, they could survive and be in the next movie too.
Which brings me to #3...
Have most of the characters live into at least half if not most of the next movie(s).
Imo, evenif you have someone like Shockwave destroyed in the first 15 minutes of the 3rd movie, that just opens it up to add another great character for the rest of it, and maybe live into the 4th.
I just think in 4 movies, you could see a TON of awesome stuff, that includes a good story, and plenty of characters in outstanding battle scenes.
And I'd be okay with the last movie being open-ended...
Just for down-the-road possibilities.
I just really hope this doesn't get lame, like AvP...
And lastly, another reason I don't want to see too many movies,
is because I want to see Prime in all of them.
In these movies, no one else can take his place.
Not Rodimus, Ultra M., etc.
That was cool in the cartoon flick, but not in these.
