Personally, I prefer Devestator! Like you said, it's what it said on the film so as far as i'm concerned, the toy is wrong!

Hasbro has said that the error was the film, not their marketing. His name is officially Brawl. I guarantee you that this has been addressed in other threads.

Theres another well documented story about 2 Star Wars figures (4-Lom and Zuckuss) Being labelled wrong, it took 20 years to rectify the error offically! If Hasbro truely are commited to getting names right I'd like to see this sorted in the DVD release then!

The issue with 4-LOM and Zuckuss wasn't Hasbro's doing. That was done by Kenner, who originally held the license before they were bought out by Hasbro some time in the mid-to-late 1980's or early 1990s. When Hasbro started producing SW figures, they used the correct names.

Hasbro is not known for making those mistakes. Besides, it was Hasbro that had final say on the names of the characters. They own them, remember?

Reportedly Michael Bay was rather upset about the error in the movie. He wanted it to say Brawl checking in rather then Devastor. I'd bet it will be corrected in the DVD release.

Weird, because I remember a report which stated that Bay liked the name Devastator more, and sneaked it in the movie without Hasbro knowing about it :-?

To be honest with you, Brawl or Devestator. I don't really care! The usual rule of film law is what's in the movie is law! (Excuse me if I have the spelling of Law wrong) If the films been released with the caption of Devestator then personally i'd go with that. However if when the DVD comes out this has been altered then fair enough, it's just a film fluff! Ne'mind!

I know this has been covered before, apparently in the credits he's called Brawl-This confuses it even more!

While that "law" may work most of the time, it doesn't work in this case. The real "law is that the source material is the correct one, and in this case, it's Hasbro. They are the source. They are the ones who make the final decisions. Remember also, that Brian Goldner COO and President of Hasbro was one of the Executive Producers. He ha a lot of decision making power on this film.

Brawl/Devestator

Personally, I prefer the name brawl. As a G1 fan, I keep visualizing the real Devastator, and "Tank-boy" seems too short for the job.

He should be called Brawl or something else like Arsenal or Annihilator... you guys can think of better names.[/img]

Well it just seems funny that with all the:-

source material,
president of Hasbro,
law,
exec producer input,
blah, blah blah

THEY STILL CALLED IT DEVESTATOR, i mean, how dim would their continuity person be to miss what in the case of proofing about 7 subtitled lines in the film and still getting it wrong! What youre saying makes no sense, if the CEO of Hasbro was exec producing the film and even he fluffed a name/didn't spot the mistake then they in all reality probably don't give a crap about who's called what anyway!

I love this arguement, it's SO funny! Perhaps we should call him BREVESTATOR or DRAWL (My favorite)

Do you know how many continuity errors are in the SW films? even between films? Therea re a number of them That is because editors are human. They make mistakes. The EP does not edit the film. They produce it. They help gather the financing, make sure the people are hired, and generally keep the ball rolling. They also make final decisions. As far back as last August, it was known that the final name was going to be Brawl, not Devastator. Devastator was just the place-holder name used, just like "Incinerator" was for Blackout.

And again, The name Devestator WAS IN THE FILM... ON THE BIG SCREEN... UNDER THE SHOT OF THE TANK! NOT BRAWL OR INCINERATOR!

Yes I do know of the continuity errors in SW, But you'll find that most errors have been manipulated over the years by Lucas to be part of the law! eg Stormtrooper banging head etc...

Check out the pic, it's a screen shot from Wikipedia!

First off, your image there is a Wiki, which is not what I would classify as a reliable source, nor would any journalist. Secondly, Those are subtitles. No one ever says his name. Third, Hasbro has already confirmed that as an error. Whoever wrote the subtitles screwed up.

It will be fixed by the DVD.

Wikipedia is unreliable.

It's the first thing profs in my research seminars tell me before handing me a research paper: "Do not quote Wikipedia, it is not a reputable source of information"

I agree. The name Devastator in the movie doesn't match with Brawl. The guy's too short. I think he should be called annihilator or ..... you know, something like that.
