Well, isn't this just a slap in the nuts? That's all fine and dandy for those of you out there who have a HD-DVD player, but what about the rest of us?

Ha Ha, Take THAT sony & your precious blu-ray!!!

....On that nore, it's a good thing it's coming out on HD-DVD, because we were planning on getting a HD-DVD drive for our 360 as a family christmas present....& now I'll have something killer to watch on it.

It's only stating that the HD format is only HDDVD, it's still going to come out on DVD.

Thats an odd decision by Paramount to discontinue support for Blu-Ray when they already have titles on both formats(eg mIssion Impossible). Anyway heres to a cheaper US import vesion as HD-DVD is region free.

They could have made that a whole lot clearer.

Yeah that is complete bullshit on Paramounts part.

Looks like Paramount lost a bit o' business. As much as I liked Transformers, I'm not gonna go out and buy an HDTV just so I can watch it. Screw that noise.

I was pissed off too at first, but I read it a couple more times, to clear things up.

Or they could be only releasing it as a HD-DVD/DVD combo disc which would reduce costs as there would be no need to make a second master copy and they could charge more for the "convenience".

Where does it actually say it's on both DVD & HD? Or hint at it. I only skim read it but I could find it anywhere.

And uh, that isn't unfair at all.

It's like the Games of Deception boxset all over again.

They state that for Next-Gen Media their exclusive would be HDDVD. They said nothing about abandoning normal DVD. They only state their exclusivity for NextGen.

Oh, cool ^^ thats good.

Maybe that should be more obvious in the first post or title...

I'm going to clear this up for everyone. They only announced that they are dropping Bluray for all movie titles. HDDVD will be their NextGen focus and they are still making DVDs.

So basically:
HDDVD: Check
DVD: Check
BluRay: Not a chance in hell.

Sounds like yet another pathetic ploy to get people to buy an X-Box 360. If it came out on Blu-Ray I would have been willing to buy a PS3. But sorry, it doesn't would this way. HD-DVD only is gay.

To not release it on regular DVD would be just stupidity (though both studios have done some real stupid things before), so I'm pretty sure it's implied that it will still be on DVD. I'd have hoped they would release it in both HD formats like other movies. Definitely a big blow to Sony who's in the lead right now. Granted, if HDDVD loses out, they'll be forced to make a TF Bluray disc.

And I hope it's a combo disc with special features for both sides unlike 300. I bought 300 as an insurance in case HD-DVD wins out and even if it loses, I could still use the regular DVD side. Except only the movie and not the special features is on the regular DVD side.

Doubtful. the X-box 360's HD DVD player is an add-on...it's not built into the system. People can play an X-box just fine without one, so I don't see how that could make people flock to the 360 when I'm sure there are several HD-DVD players that are under the $600+ it would cost to get a 360+ HD drive.

I think this means it'll not be in Blu-Ray format; I don't think it means they won't publish it in non-HD DVD format, which would be financial suicide.

This is quite disappointing that they would choose to side with the inferior media. Now the industry is split into two and the only hope for people on a budget would be a hybrid media player.

True, I may be a little bitter cuz I wanted to see it in 1080p. DVD is fine (and cheeper).

This move is complete and utter crap. It'll become clearer as time goes on but I believe they were paid an extreme amount of money for HD-DVD Exclusivity (I've seen the number 150million thrown around).

Considering the lead that Blue Ray has I'm just gonna wait this one out till/if Blue Ray finally fully wins out and it gets Retroactively released on Blue Ray. Course I get no use out of HD movies right now anyway even though I do have a PS3, since I don't have it hooked up to a display with HDCP. So HD movies would get downscaled to 480 anyway.

Guess this puts getting a 37-42" HDTV onto the back burner for a while.

doesnt make sense

there is another issue with this as paramount studios has been listed as one of the supporting member companies of blu-ray and they are still listed as such as of 2:10pm 8/20/2007..., and yet there isnt a mention of dreamworks or paramount on the HD-dvd Association web site

And when Blu-Ray wins the medal of being the next format after DVD, what will they do then?
