how do TFs "see" in vehicle-mode?

this has been bugging me for a while. when we see blackout and the "pilot" flickers, it looks like eyes. also when frenzy gets into barricade at the airport, the "cop" looks over at him with annoyance. no one else seems to use "holo-drivers." any ideas, or has this already been covered?

Advanced alien sensory systems far beyond the comprehension of dumb humans?

Ditto. I always thought they have optical sensors in the head and tailights...which I can go further and say by that logic, Autobots must have eyes on their butts! lol.

I'd vote for this idea.

Perhaps they do have extremely sensitive sensors attached to their regular optics. Maybe Jazz's got disconnected when BB got hit by Starscream's missile...

Built-in sensor arrays embedded in their skin, who knows?, except them

Unlike Energon Ironhide who was so technologically inferior he had his head on display for all to see.
ahhhh it feels good to rag on Energon Ironhide again.

His cheap, Star Trek hologram.

I don't think it's headlights. I thought they all had fake drivers which were not holograms, but actual transformed heads which they saw through.

Maybe they don't "see" in the visual range when they're in vehicular modes. You know how Daredevil in the Marvel comics has "radar" sense? Maybe Transformers in vehicle mode are constantly sending out pulses that reflect back at them. The big advantage this would have over optics is that they would know practically EVERYTHING that's going on around them at any given time.

Like I said, it transforms into the "human" driver. Remember the flicker effect on Blackout's driver? It showed there was a robot "underneath". That's it's head, or some of it.

Not a well-known fact, but yes.

I doubt so.
The "pilot"'s robot eyes are the size of HUMAN eyes.
Doesnt seem proportional.

As for the holos. I don't think they aid the TF in seeing things. The Barricade hologram was simply a realistic recording which looked around and moved so it appeared as if he reacted to the environment and was actually alive.
Anyone remember where Frenzy's eyes went in cd player mode? His head flattened and divided into different portions of the cd player's front. Prime's head was formed from dozens of parts which all moved from different directions into the correct configuration. Unlike the toys and all previous series, these TFs don't have solid heads stored somewhere in vehicle mode. They're spreaded throughout a certain part of the vehicle. Perhaps the eyes become headlights indeed.
When Barricade made Sam fall off his bicycle and drove right at him, he slipped out those headlight-spike thingies. Those could have been his vehicle mode optics.

I always assumed that their optics turned off when they went into vehical mode and used an advanced radar or senory output that gave them an image much like how Bats or Dolphins see in the water. Sort of like a hightech echolocation program that allowed them to use their mirrors and such as eyes. It seems to me that they mostly see almost like in Virtual Reality. Where the sensors tell them where everthhing is and a picture comes up in their heads which is actually shut off and the power diverted to a system inside the engine hidden below it so if the front is hit they're not damaged.
Tracks kinda implied this when he was stolen. The lights and mirrors are the sensors around them.
