More Minutes to Transformers IMAX?

Could there be more minutes than meets the eye? Superhero Hype! reports that there is an additional 5 minutes added to the IMAX release of Transformers instead of the previously announced 2 minutes.

"We hate to go against what Michael Bay said about the IMAX release of Transformers, after all he IS the director, but from what we are hearing the September 21 re-release has been timed at 149 minutes. The original theatrical release was 144 minutes.

Bay previously said here that the large format version would have 2 minutes of extra footage. Could it be 5 minutes now?

Either way, the fans win, as you'll get to see the robots even bigger along with more footage than before!"

You can read the original article here.

Hmm ... five minutes would be great but if Bay said two, then perhaps this is just a discrepancy.

Either way, it's more.

Whether it is actually decent and relevant additional footage, or not is all that truly matters.

Actually the IMAX movie just runs slightly slower than the normal theater version. That's why it seems like there's 5 extra minutes.

If those extra minutes were spent wit Sam bonding with the Transformers rather than rush rush rush, then it will enhance the movie.

I liked it, but its biggest fault was that I felt it needed more time to let the audience get to connect with the Autobots.

or....maybe those extra 2 minutes created new credits so the end credits are longer?

I'm still saying its the added scene of Figuroa on the plane back from Quatar. Its in the teaser with Lennox grabbing his ahand. and we see the aftermath once they're on the ground and you see the Ambulance driving off.

Bingo. And tacked on to the end of the credits will be extra "Conversion-To-IMAX" credits, that'll extend the official runtime of the movie by at least another minute, possibly more...

Hi everyone this is my first post on your awesome site. I just wanted to ask if anyone knew whether this extra footage would be included on the dvd release or is this just an IMAX exclusive?

Thanks for that Jedi Kermit. Bummer about the extra footage but I will look forward to buying an extended edition dvd in the future aswell! We won't get to see this version of the movie here in Brisbane Aus as our only IMAX theatre shut down. DOH!!

Crap in a hat.

I really don't want to buy the 2-Disc special edition, then find out months later that there's a Director's Cut of the movie coming out, with extra footage.

What to do, what to do?!

Unfortunately I can't wait that long for the directors cut so I will buy both editions. October 16th better hurry up!! LOL Can't wait to watch all the special features and of course the movie.

Five minutes or two, it better be spent wisely. Maybe use 45 seconds of it telling us where Barricade went...

well as so many have mentioned in other posts that he gets killed by prime in the bonecrusher fight. I kinda hope they leave him alone so he can come back for the sequal. I really liked barricade and think there would be too many new decepticons for the sequal if they kill him off. Considering they took out brawl/devastator, blackout and Megs. They just introduced us to all these new characters i don't want to have to go through all that again for number 2. Hopefully they show him running to fight another day rather than his demise, although it would be cool as a deleted scene!

Its just so they can run the credits longer. There were a lot of people on the special effects crew!

I'd put money on it being the first car chase/fight between bumblebee and barricade that's extended.

you know it would be great if those five minutes were at teh end of the movie and dealt completly with sam and the transformers it would be a great way to close out the movie but considering how this movie it will probly be exteneded footage of the interigation scene

It's funny how some people are reporting on the extra minutes in this IMAX release. I loved the film, but hanging on to every extra minute seems a bit overkill to me.

5 minutes is good. Better than 2 minutes.
More for the money's worth!

As long as it is more screen time for the bots, and not humans, then I'm in. Otherwise I could care less.

I called our IMAX theater here in Austin, and another in San Jose (where I'll be next month) and neither had any idea about TF coming to IMAX. Do we know of a definite release date?
