Holy crap! The movie's STILL in theaters!

OK, I've just gotta comment on this, because this is pretty freaky. Given the fact that the movie's been out for a while, and that the DVD release date is coming up soon (not to mention the IMAX release), I would have figured that now would be a good time to get it out of most theaters.
Well, most theaters near where I live HAVE taken it out. But an equal number of theaters are STILL playing it.
I mean, what's going on here? I know it's still making lots and lots of money (the only reason I can come up with to justify this), but with the DVD release in five weeks, I would have figured it to be gone totally.
Is the movie still playing in theaters near anyone else? And if so, what do you feel about this?

It's still playing in my area, which is the Sunshine Coast of Queensland, Australia. And we've had it longer than the States.
Though reading some catalogues yesterday it appears our DVD release isn't until about Novemeber 3

No more Transformers shows in my country, Indonesia.
And I have to wait until I got the original DVD to watch it again.

The theater we saw it in stopped playing it in late August we noticed, and then the next week it was back for 3 showings a day. It's down to 2 showings a day this week, but it's definitely still there.

Haven't there been like 20 or 30 movies released since then? For any full-priced theatre to still be playing the movie, that's incredible!

Most of Metroplitan Sydney have had it taken down since the end of August, a 2 month showing is not half bad for cinemas with 6-8 screens.
However the Sydney George St. Cinemas still have it running, and some of the smaller cinema's (not Hoyts or GU) are starting its run now.
Should be gone from the all by the time we get the DVD in November.

Down to one showing in a local theater, but still going. Insane, isn't it?

It really is. Like I said, the only reason I think it would still be there is because it's still making money.

But it's good news for us. Guarantees success and a sequel at least. But...how do you top something that's made over $690 million worldwide? Sequels rarely ever beat their predecessor, or even come close.

Last I checked, the local Century theater had 2 showings. 7:15 and 10:10 I think it was. I'm sure the dollar theaters have dozens of showtimes though. Now can I hold out for the dvd or cave in and see it again?

Isn't that pretty much why anybody does anything?
Transformers made AU$35,000 last week from 34 Theatres, only AU$5000 less than the just released "Surf's Up" which was in 59 cinemas.
Might not sound like much, but for a 3 month old film, that is pretty damn good.

but maybe transformers could be different, every one likes transformers and will want to see a sequel. so it could beat the 1st one

Shrek 2, Pirates 2 and Spiderman 2 all did far better than the originals in the Cinema. Not sure about on DVD though.
LotR:Return of the King which is technically a sequel did far better than both it's predecessors.

Domestically (US), Spiderman did $404 mil, SM2 did like $373 mil, and SM3 did about $330 mil. So each did worse than the last. Still, that's a lot of cash and it's worth it to make more, even if they don't make quite as much.
Plus, TFs seem to sell better than Spiderman.
Though....Shrek 2 did do better than Shrek 1, I believe. It's insane how much that stupid movie made.

Wow, Spiderman did $8 million more (Internationally) than Spidey 2... my apologies on the incorrectness. Funnily enough they occupy spots 17 and 18 on the all time list (but will be lower post 2006/2007).

I'm guessing this will be the final week it will be playing up here. It's down to one session time, 3pm. Always a sign a movie is finishing its run. So Thursday next week, so more Transformers.
Though, it will be interesting if I'm wrong.

Came out
of theaters a month ago, not "came out
in theaters a month ago.
