Unfair Protoforms

Does anyone else think that the autobots got ripped off on their protoforms? Megatron gets to transform into a cool jet, but the autobots get asteroids. That doesn't seem fair.

perhaps those asteroid like forms are not there orginal forms but some kinda long distance space travle/ or planetary entry mode?

I thought that the Autobots had their comet forms purely for travelling through space. Their "true" Cybertronian forms are never revealed.

Because Megatron's alt mode is a Space flight capable jet he has no need for a Space travelling alt mode/protoform mode.

Whic means you can't consider the protoforms to be unfair. You should say that it's the alternate modes that are unfair. :-?

actually I was just trying to explain why they had those modes i wasn't trying to say if eather one was fair.

Here's what I think: After the AllSpark was launched in space, Megatron tracked it down in his spaceship mode. The Autobots had to scan new alt modes so they can travel in space so they could find the Cube before Megatron did. And their Cybertronian alt modes are never revealed.

It is said that they had to revert to their protoform modes in order to travel through space.

Didn't I just say that?

Maybe Megatron was originally a squidball mode himself. Then flew into Cybertron some eons ago. That's where he saw a Cybertronian jet, scanned it, and assumed that mode.

the cybertronian jet mode a lot faster to catch the cube
rather than protoform asteroid..

It doesn't matter in space. There's no air resistance to speak of.

But the squidball protoform offers more protection than a Cybertronian jet form, when entering atmosphere from space.

Didn't Starscream have a asteroid protoform too?

Yes, at least in the toy line. One would imagine that they all had asteroid forms, except for Megatron.

So if that's the case how were the Autobot's ripped of with their protoforms?

That is, vs Megatron.

I'm not sure they did get ripped off. I suspect (whether there's any evidence of this in the film or prequels, I can't confidently say) that all Cybertronians had the comet forms, except for Megatron who I'd imagine upgraded himself deliberately. I could be wrong, of course.

Megatron fell to Earth, and immediately entered stasis mode. No time to scan or upgrade.

I meant he probably upgraded himself for interstellar flight on Cybertron.

Wasn't his alt-mode already a Cybertronian Spacejet? That would enable him to immediately take off....

I think that's the point Leo is making. Megatron's alt-mode was already capable of interstellar flight, which could have been an upgrade he made to his alt-mode when he decided to go to earth in search of the Allspark.

Exactly. In the prequel comics, we see Megatron has the same jet mode as the movie but maybe at some point in the past (chronologically before the prequel comics started and possibly after he had "gathered an army"), Megatron upgraded himself from a 'domestic' alt.mode to one capable of interstellar flight.

Looking at the comics, it would seem that comet alt.modes weren't their only form as Dreadwing has a jet alt.mode (unless, of course, he and the other Decepticons upgraded from a comet alt.mode at some point in the past).

We need to trace it to the pre-prequel comics!
