Why the Arcee love?

I have to ask. Why do so many people want Arcee for TF2? What is it about the character that so many people like? Is it because she already has an animation model, because she is a bike, or something else?

Personally, I would quite happily not see Arcee in any movie. The character (G1 obviously) never appealed to me.

Here's the problem. We all (I hope) know that the movie is not a remake of the G1 series. It never has been, it never will be. People will complain that "I didn't like Arcee in G1, so she shouldn't be in the movie", but if fans would just think about that statement, they would know it doesn't hold up. So you didn't like Arcee in G1. Good for you. Nor did I. Thankfully, the movie series is different. I hated Bumblebee in G1, but loved him in the movie, what does that tell you? It tells me that this is a different continuity, and that fans can't use G1 as a precedence for absolutely everything the movie does.

Secondly, fans will complain about her size. "She's too small in bot mode" everyone cries. This is perhaps the argument that drives me the most nuts. I just can't understand the reasoning behind it. Yes, she would only be 9-feet-tall.... uh... so? TFs come in all shapes and sizes. Yes, some of them (especially in the movie) are very huge, but why do they all have to be? I remember many fans complaining that the TFs in the films "grew" too much and that it wouldn't make sense for them to be so big. I heard people complain that Bumblebee was too big to pass of as the classic Bumblebee character, and now we're complaining that some TFs are too small? If anything, having a small TF would add great variety to the Autobot crew. Arcee would be fast and stealthy, almost ninja-like. Can't you imagine all these great scenes where she would zoom between cars only to transform and jump on top of the bigger Decepticons and blow their heads off without them even noticing her? Size shouldn't matter. Size doesn't matter. I would think a fandom comprised mostly of men would understand that.

Thirdly, the motorbike alt mode is brilliant. If there is ever any motorbike TF in the movie series, only Arcee would pull it off. Anyone who has ever driven a motorbike will know that they are great machines and really deserve a place on the big screen along with all the "big cars". You need variety in a movie franchise. It is it's own universe, probably only going to last 3 films. You need to cram as many different characters and vehicles as you can in there. To make three films and not include one motorbike TF would be a damn shame.

Fourthly, there is the question of the fembot thing. I've heard just about every argument against it, and have never been convinced. Not by a single one. As long as the audience does not question the existence of robots that are obviously, inherently male, with all the traditionally "male" characteristics, they won't question the female bots, no more than they'll question the fact that the TFs refer to each other as "he" and that Bumblebee obviously urinates like a man.

Fifthly. She just looks cool. It's a wicked design. It doesn't make you any less a man to like a female character. There is alot of potential with this character if fans just give her a chance, instead of dismissing her for basically being "a little woman".

If the leaked script treatment ends up being used, Mikaela gets her "guardian" in Hot Rod.

Here's the script on eBay!

I don't know...I got one and it's pretty awesome.

Here's where someone at Allspark.com shows it was written by Ehren Kruger (the guy that has been signed to write TF2.)

I really don't care one way or the other if Arcee ends up in the movie. There have been a few versions of her (animated and comic) and I haven't liked any of them, but that doesn't mean her movie version wouldn't be cool.

Once again, I find myself agreeing whole-heartedly with Skowl. The arguments against her have been stupid, but so have been the arguments FOR her. So, I'm pretty much just gonna sit back and let what will happen happen.

So long as I get MORE STARSCREAM and no High Priest fanatical Soundwave, I'll be happy. I just want a sequel.

People say Bay messed up the first one, but I think it was a wild ride XD I'm crossing my fingers for the sequel's fate, Arcee or no Arcee!

While I think the Arcee figure is cool, I don't really like the character. I think my dislike for her stems from the fact that she's really the token female transformer (I know there have been lots of different fembots since then), who was only brought into the mainstream to appease those who thought that all transformers being male was sexist. The more I think about it, I think Cybertron is the only series (barring beast wars perhaps, don't really know much about that) that features more than 1 female transformer in more than 1 episode.

I understand this is a new continuity. By that comment, I mearly meant that there were other characters that endured themselves to me that I would like to see in a movie before Arcee. I have nothing against the design or the alt mode, and I know the character of her will be different (I wasn't comparing her to G1), I was simply wondering why there were alot of Arcee for TF2 sigs around, with no other characters mentioned in them. And you explained your reasons well. Thank you. I like that idea of zooming between cars, transforming in traffic and jumping ontop of a Decepticon. Bay could get a great action scene from that.

That's awful lot of narrative for a movie script.

I say bogus.

Murphy also said it was bogus.

Nelson, the admin of Michael Bay's forum, says it whether or not it is real or not doesn't matter, because this is not the treatment they're going to use.

Take from that what you will. They've told us things before that were "phony" and that turned out to be 100% true.

In short, we'll only know for sure on June 26th 2009.

It has to be fake, they only recently hired the writers.

As for Arcee, I hope that TF2 drifts away somewhat from the human/tf interaction and starts looking at the big picture of the war. IMO having Arcee as Mikaela's guardian seems hokey to me. If they do put her in, I don't want her to be a love interest or guardian, I want her to actually be a meaningfull character who comes off as a useful asset in war.

That said, I don't want another X3 where it's just mindless character inclusion, random character killing and silly battles.

I'm all for Arcee being in TF2 based solely on the fact that she's an awesome toy in both alt and robot mode; although that face has got to go. Granted, Arcee's alt mode in the original Transformer movie was lame, but so was pretty much all of the 'new' autobots; yes, even Hot Rod/ Rodimus Prime. Futuristic cars, my ass. The 'new' autobots in the '86 movie were both weak as toys and as cartoons; in hindsight, the '86 movie pretty much just sucked, in general. So yeah, Arcee for TF2, all the way. Oh, and if they could somehow find a way to squeeze Soundwave in as well, that would be groovy.

Yes. Arcee for TF2. Why not. It would draw in more females to the franchise. (the wiener to bun ratio is waaay too low  ) and double hell yeah for Soundwave in TF2. I wanna see that. Something tells me he will be a Caddy Escalade  I hope they make him a kick-ass jet though.

I'm all for Arcee in TF2 if only to open the doors for other female TFs.I think it would be cool if some time down the road we could see female seekers! Also if there were fembots I think
we would see those slash/yaoi fanfics die out.Arcee from G1 was nothing but a nanny bot,but in the movievese the character
could be well-done,also the cost of another CGI character
could be spent else ware on someone else....Like Thundercracker!

I would personally prefer the true girlfriends of the Autobots instead of only Arcee. I mean, Chromia, Elita One, and those brave female autobot fighters.

And why not? A female gestalt...
