Heck, if anything it could be construed as a little jab at himself.
Personally, I think Bay could be a prick to work with at times, but the person, Bay himself seems like a pretty cool guy.

The kid running out there excited is one thing, but it was just crappy after that. Funny the first time I saw it, annoying the second time, and stupid from then on. Unquestionably one of the best parts of the movie, marred by something that doesn't even matter. Really, do I care what he's directed in the past? Not one bit actually, and I'd rather not hear it in the middle of such an exciting part. Plenty of other humans in the scene and none of them are being tools. Like Shia says in one part of the DVD extras about a line he had while on the ledge, "it's such a **** line".
