Okay, I dont know if anybody else noticed this, but I did. In the movie, the marine named Fig, his character seems to be made out to be a Cajun, talking about Alligator E'toufe, and his mother's mystic gifts (Voodoo?). The only issue I have with this is that Fig speaks Spanish. Cajuns speak a really screwed up mix of English and French.

Yeah, I know, it's just a movie.

Also, I think Fig is short for Figueroa. That's a Spanish last name, right?

Well you gotta remember that part of the Cajun culture is influenced by creole and caribbean culture...And Fig is not South American, seems to be from the Caribbean, possibly Dominican. So it does make sense.

He could very well be Creole, which is a mixture of French, Spanish, African, Carribean, sometimes even Vietnamese. Mostly found in south Louisiana.

Creole is an interesting point. But, um, you don't really see too many outside of the bayou. (lord, i'm really trying not to sound offensive.) Let it never be said that I badmouthed the Creoles, Cajuns, and coonies. I'm related to a few, and half my family lives in trailers that they've built permanent extra rooms onto.

For those who think this paints a poor picture of the South, Louisiana, or rednecks in general, I promise it isn't that bad down here! We're just fun-loving country folks! Really! We do wear shoes! (No, seriously, I had somebody ask me once if the shoes i was wearing were my first pair)

So yeah, this so totally diverged from Transformers and turned into a little ramble about good ole Dixieland. That's what I get for staying up all night. :P

As recently as the early 19th century, the Gulf Coast (esp. Florida panhandle and points west) were Spanish possessions, and Spanish Empire influence in the region dates to Ponce de Leon's expeditions (ca 16c). So it's considerably within the realm of possibility that a Figueroa family could have long-standing ties both to an Hispanic heritage and be wizards with reptillian etoufee.

Santaria, like the old Sublime song. It is a mixture of Christianity, specifically Catholiscism, and Vodoo.

True but its roots are mainly Vodoo..........all that war really done when adding Catholiscism to the mix was to change the names of the sprits the envoker is trying to summon. If you look into the topic you'll find that almost every where that the Spanish invaded and brought black slaves to have adobted a simular religin.
