Can Transformers turn into each other?

After all, they have the power to analyse and imitate any machine they come across, so what's to stop them from transforming into each other? That would add a new twist to 'robots in disguise'.

:P I hear that's how they are introducing Motormaster and Ultramagnus :P

But it could be an interesting running joke to see the lambo bros copying every lamborghini they see on the streets along with Breakdown or Deadend...

Or Runamuck and Runabout could do it with other cars :-?

It should make for a good promotional gemick

Don't give Hasbro ideas!
Just imagin the toys, they wouldn't even bother to repaint them, they would just repack them in new baxes:

Optimus Prime disguised as Starscream.
Bumblebee disguised as Megatron and so on!

i was atleast thinking a face remold :P

:-? but a perfect transformation would prove cost effective. A few sigil decals and a half decent bio write up should satisfy the collectors :-P

No they cannot, this is what many people get wrong; THEY CANNOT TURN INTO ANYTHING. According to they movie, they can only find a MACHINE that fits their size. Like for instance; Bonecusher is say... 26 feet tall. The Buffalo has just the right amount of machinery and mass to make BB scan it, and transform into it. Also Frenzy is 3 feet tall. He finds a radio that will have him fit perfectely into it.

This is an aspect in the fanfic I'm working on, actually. It's a fun idea to play with. My main robot character is about the same size as Starscream, so killing him off and infiltrating the Decepticon base is a fun concept to play with.

The only things that hold the Transformers back from mimicking each other, IMO, are finding another bot of the same size, and getting that bot to stand still long enough to scan...

This got me laughing out loud. I can just imagine Starscream whining "Please stand still for a sec!" to a tapdancing Bumblebee

I kinda wondered that myself, but only with the movie bots. They took alot of liberties with there ability to scan new alts.

In G1 though there were the AutoBot and Decepticon clones :-?

Not this collector!

Now if they could do a dual bot of quality like Punch-CounterPunch, but have it look good with proper articulation :-?

Oh no, even Sunbow is trying to get in on this and they don't need another excuse to make lazy mistakes and bad animation errors!

Those red things either side of Starscream's head...do they just disappear when he puts on the Optimus helmet?

It could be a means to explain punch/counterpunch... i'ld think that scanning another sentient being could have negative results on the TF though. This would also help explain punch/counterpunch...
<hr>
In regards to the toy front, what i could actually see working is a toy TF with detachable alt mode kibble. I'll use Bumblebee 1st then Sideswipe and Sunstreaker as examples.

Mustang Bumblebee could have the classic mustang frame aand the concept 08 mustang frame as well. His transformation sequence hadn't really changed, and toy wise just the outer frame details. Two mustang kibble molds would be packaged with a semi-protoform looking bumblebee. The kibble molds would be segmented so they can be applied to the figure in either configuration (mech or alt) and not impede the transformation of the figure. Should a cliffjumper toy be made his kibble would conceivably be interchangeable with bummblebee as they traditionally share the same transformation sequence and size. His face should also be remolded. Is there a porsche the same size as a mustang? I thought they were a little small. (note: me TF fan not exactly sports car fan)

While the lambo bros would have alternate transformation sequences they could share there lamborghini alt modes. each could have 3 to 5 sets of specific lambo frame kibble. red and yellow respectively. The figures would be able to transform with the kibble attached or even detached. The segmenting of the lambo frames would be different for each TF but the initial molds could be the same. The Kibble for the Lambo bro should not be interchangeable though as they do not share the same transformation sequence. This will prevent the sunstreaker's feet kibble on sideswipe's chest swap and such

anywhoo that was my rant 8)

No it was just a costume, to let the Humans think that the Autobots were evil and the Cons the good guys, so the Humans would lock the Bots up into a Spaceship to the sun.
