Ratchet has always been my favorite. He was the ambulance in G1 right? I think I like him as a kid because both my parents were in the EMS field. My mom was a paramedic and my dad was a firefighter/ paramedic. The used to talk shop over dinner. ( to this day I have a really strong stomach)
Funny thing is I dont remember the G1 Ratchet ever being able to smell hormones! I always wondered if the G1 ambulance was just like a real one.

Well, for one thing in G1 cartoons, there wasn't any human contact. The only human contact I recall is Spike in the movie, and that was the movie. Was Ratchet even in that movie?

Sorry I digress. Internal conversations should stay internal, huh?

Back to the topic: They were on Cybertron and around other 'bots, so no pheremones (that's what it is, not hormones :-P ) were available to 'smell'.

Are you referring to the 86 movie because if you are, both Spike and Daniel were in it and Ratchet had been exposed to humans for about 20 years in the the G1 timeline from first episode to 86 movie events. There were a bunch of humans in G1, the general public was quite aware of who the Autobots and Decepticons were, at least in bot mode.

Ratchet was in the 86 movie and he was killed. It brings up an interesting question to me because it's rumored that Transformers: Animated is kind of a continuation of the events in G1. Supposedly the events in G1 are cannon to the TF:A universe. It's also rumored that Ratchet is a survivor from the war of that era... but he died in the 86 movie. Oh well, Prime died to but came back in Season 3.

As for why Ratchet can't smell pheremones in G1, I don't think the writers ever thought about that type of technology. Besides why would they ever need to use it in the original series?

Ah, yes, okay, thanks for clarifying. It's been so long since I've seen G1 cartoons....and I was so young.

Yes, I was referring to the main series, but in the cartoon movie, I knew Spike and Daniel were in it. But I don't seem to recall Ratchet being in it....and that's why, you explained it, thanks!

Anywhoos, this movie is also a PG-13 movie, and the cartoon was what, G, if not below. :) Pheremones weren't really an issue, and neither was 'mating.'

Ratchet dies pretty early in the movie aboard the ship with several other classic characters. The part that upsets me is that they die from Starscream shooting at them with Megatron in gun mode. How many times were the Autobots shot at by Megatron in either bot mode or gun mode and they didn't die? One shot in the movie all of the sudden and they're dead. A really horrible way for them to pathetically and easily die. It isn't disrespectful enough they kill off the classics, but they make them go down like punks as well.

I know what you mean! I am curious to see how they will do this next cartoon they are making. I hope ratchet is in it.
I found the pheromone smelling thing funny because I had assumed that he would not really know anything about how humans work, kinda like a doctor is not good at fixing his car. I loved the scene though! My whole family had a good laugh at it. I too also loved the back yard scene. I was not ready for the movie to end, I could have sat there another 2 hours. They did such a good job on that movie that people who never heard of transformers before June loved the movie.

Bay put ratchet in the movie to be the comic relief. other than that he really had no other significance in the movie.other than establishing the cube can kill.

As I said in an earlier post, from what I hear G1 is canon to the Animated universe. The war in G1 is supposed to be their past. I have also heard of all the Autobots, Ratchet is the only one to have seen battle. It's rumored that he may be the Ratchet from G1. I'm not sure how that will work because he died in the 86 movie, although if Prime can come back from the dead, I suppose Ratchet can too.

I'll try and see if I can find a link for you about these rumors concerning Ratchet and the new series.

The first time seeing the movie, Ratchet was the character that I was most pleasantly surprised with.

I was expecting him to be a nobody third-tier character. But he really kicked some ass in the downtown battle. At first I was iffy about the greenish colour, but it's grown on me alot. His bot mode is cool, and he has a great head design that's very expressive, and his voice sounds great.

Oh, and that Hummer 'search & rescue' vehicle mode is friggin' awesome.

I know what you mean, I thought he was just going to be there near the end, but he actually had a lot of dialoge in the movie, he was pretty signifigant and his saw weapon was incredible. Heeven did better against Starscream than ironhide did.

Funny how they worked that out! Ratchet hitting the power lines was great! Oooo that tingles! It was a nice touch have the lights and siren go off for that second he was in contact with the power line.

Where did you hear that from.....as far as I know that has already been proven to be a fan rumor. And it would be a bad idea ether way because it would also conect the new show to the Beast Wars and Beast Machines universe.

The only way it could work is if Ratchet is a universe jumper.

A lot of the early reports I read were saying that. It would make a lot more sense that it was a fan rumor. As I pointed out, Ratchet is already dead so it would take quite a story to explain how he is now alive and is in the Animated storyline.

Being dead isint that hard a thing to over come for TF's thou.....both Ironhide and Prowl were dead back in G1 but both are part of Beast Wars history.

If that rumour is true, Ratchet seems an odd choice to pick as the 'one who had seen the original war'. If they were going to pick a character who died in the animated movie, why not go for Prowl (who was seen in Headmasters) or Wheeljack (who was seen in Victory).

Of course, the point that Ratchet may just have been resurrected / reborn / not really dead is entirely valid. Alternatively, it could be someone else from G1 (or someone previously unseen) who either shared the name Ratchet or changed their name to Ratchet.
