If you watched the scene in the alley, prime's head is as big as sam. the animators really cheated on the hugeness of prime in a couple of spots.

I'll have to take another look, but the perspective does change. Like when the camera is staring over Prime's shoulder while his head is transforming. His head would look bigger than both of the kids from that perspective. (35+ feet in the air., and looking on a downward angle)
I wouldn't doubt that they exaggerated his size here and there for added drama, but for the most part they got it right.

His head is as big as sams as he first approaches because he's farther away, a train looks like a toy from far away but when it gets closer you quickly notice how big it has gotten.
I'm not really sure what the point of this post is because as soon as he gets up close to sam you see how much larger he is in relation.

I didn't read the question as OP's head is as big "as sam's head". I read it as his head is as big "as sam" as in "as all of sam".
I also think they may have "nudged" the perspective here and there for dramatic effect, but I also think for the most part they got it right.

While personally I DONT think that they cheated (atleast too much) with the character sizes, ILM have done so before - most notibly in the movie "Gozilla".
In their defence however, such moves are at the decision of the Director, rather than the art or animation team.

Sorry, I did not mean to use the plural but still.
It's safe to say the actor is between 5 and 6 feet tall, probably closer to 6 feet and the average person is pretty much done growing at 18-20 years old as far as height goes and with the actor being 21 now you would think that is tall enough ( about six feet tall ) for a robots head on a 35ish foot tall robot.

I noticed something else while watching the DVD... compare the scene when Optimus picks up Sam and Mikela in one hand to the scene shortly after when he picks up the glasses.
Those glasses are HUGE! Their width must be the length of Sam's leg at least!
