I think Ratchet and Ironhide looked better than they did in G1 and some of the toy only transormers look better too.
Anyone agree?

Yep, they just look so much more believable now. I mean of course theres always gonna be a soft spot in my heart for old G1 Prime and Bumblebee and others but as far as realistic looking and believable giant robots go you cant beat the new designs.

I prefer G1 Jazz, Prime, Starscream, and Frenzy over their movie counterparts...
Ironhide and Ratchet do look better however!

Yeah the new BB, Scorp, Ratchet, Ironhide, Blackout, Bonecrusher, and Megatron are definite improvements.
Starscream and Jazz G1 is better though.

In my opinion, most of the designs look worse, as it's just not a design style I like.
Prime, Blackout and Starscream though manage to keep a lot of the design stylings that made G1, or RiD/A/E/C so unique compared to other robot designs, so I really like them.
The toys though, do none of the designs any justice.

I don't really like one over the other, they both are what they are separate from one another but part of the transformers universe because if anything this franchise has shown is that it's not been consistent with characters, plot lines etc and that all started with G1 and happened quite a bit.
I like what each has to offer, the cartoon was a cartoon and the 1986 movie too so they should be viewed and treated as such and not necessarily a holy bible in relation to everything that has come afterwards with no room for anything different.

I agree with ***Galvatron***, I don't like one over the other and they are seperate universes. That said, I think that the movie designs, so far, look cooler and more believable. Although Autobot protoforms look pathetic compared to Megatron, who is also technically in his protoform.

The thing about the movie designs are that they're really complex, alot of people had difficulty distinguishing the bots. The old designs were simple and easy to remember, but I doubt very much that it would translate well on the silver screen and this decade, the old designs were too simple although they do have a certain charm about them. The new designs however are more intricate , realistic, their humanoid exoskeleton structure allows them to be more lithe and limber (I would imagine that the old G1 bots would be stumbling around with those blocky form of theirs) so I would say they are an improvement for a live action movie. But of course, this is just my very humble opinion.

At first, I was not impressed by the change in style for the 2007 Transformers movie, but upon repeat viewing of the movie, I find that it appears to be a much more plausible design for a live action flick versus utilizing more of the style of, say, the G1 designs.
That being said, I still find Megatron's movie form as utterly hideous and lacking in a lot of creativity. Hopefully, in TF2, Megatron (if he reappears, and I'm betting he probably will) will take on a better alt mode and won't look so freakishly retarded in his robot form.
On a side note: I think I may be one of the few people who found Frenzy to be a pretty sweet character in the 2007 movie. I did not find him annoying at all, but I could see why a lot of people did. That also being said, please bring back Soundwave for TF2!

Love the movie look. It's funny, I've always wanted some of my old toys back. I was really considering getting a G1 reissue Prime to have around, remembering how cool I thought he was when I was a kid. But after seeing the movie and taking another look at the G1 designs and toys, I just lost interest. They don't do it for me at all anymore. I find them boring now. Of course, I hadn't been interested in Transformers for 15 years or so, so the new blood is really working for me. Except Megatron's alt mode. Blagh.

I take Megatron's general form and alt mode as I would any of the other protoform's. It's just plain half-baked. I thought they did an awesome job translating prime, and TF2 should dedicate as much time as they did on Prime on Megatron now. TF1 in some ways was about the autobots, not necessarily in terms of screen time, but in terms of symathetic viewing ("my bad.") TF2 should be about the Decepticons, giveing us more screen time into their inner workings. Are they a hierarchy? Why exactly *is* Megatron in charge? TF1 Megatron seemed more like Galvatron in terms of his somewhat insane postures, not exactly a brooding planner like the other cons were.
Bottom line: OP was the face of TF1. A well-done Megs with a similar quality G1 translation should be the face of TF2.

Nah Starscream or Soundwave should be the face of TF2

Toy-wise, while I do love the G1 toys, the movie one's look cooler IMHO--but, cartoon wise, I do like a lot of the G1 looks better--such as Starscream and Thundercracker, Megatron, Bumblebee, Prime, and Jazz.

They all looked sick!!! I liked all the new designs and concepts, and thank god Ratchet and Iron hide weren't mini vans;-)
If you haven't already, and have a DVD player that does slow motion with sound, check out the action scenes in the movie in slow motion... my roommate and I were sucked right into it. You can see everything. It really holds up. Either way, I loved them all. They did a great job.

I love the G1 designs so much that whoever designs the movie couterparts is going to have to work alot harder to win me over. My least favorite character has always been Bumblebee, but all of a sudden I'm forced to like him because he is in my opinion the best looking character in the movie by far. A distant second is Optimus Prime (A bit too much of a departure for my liking). All the rest of the Transformers in the movie look like hideous piles of rusted slag. It bothers me when I can't tell characters apart at a quick glance. In a fast moving action movie like Transformers, one ought to be able to recognize a character immediately. My suggestion would be to give the characters more distinct color schemes, and get away from the monochromatic look. There are very few (none that I can think of) Transformers in any of the series that don't have soem sort of paint scheme to distinguish them. We fans can even tell repaint characters apart (i.e. Rumble and Frenzy). The new movie characters should be more like this.
whew!

I had no problems with the designs or color schemes and did not have a problem keeping up with the action as I'm used to those types of movies, Brawl and Blackout and Megatron I thought were a little more distinctive in design and colors as far as the decepticons go.
Optimus and Bumblebee I liked the best on the Autobrats side, everyone whines about the flames on optimus and that was because his original paint scheme was far too blue, blue is my favorite color and I preferred his final color scheme and as far as the lips go, at least he had a mouth guard too and no other transformer has ever had a mouth? ya please! I had no problems with either.

Yeah, I'm a fan of the movie designs. The purpose is for them to have an alein look to them.
I like the fact that visors and mouth guards are retractible like optimus' mouth guard and jazz's visor.
This is the reason I really look forward to soundwave's design, becasue if his visor and mouthplate are retractable, then imagine how his "face" will look.

I don't like Megatron's design at all. It just doesn't click for me. I think he could have standed to be a bit more squared off or something.
I like Starscreams design, but there is nothing about it that Says "this is Starscream!" to me.
The rest of them I do like.

I like the movie designs of Bumblebee, Ratchet, Ironhide, Blackout, Brawl, Bonecrusher, and Barricade over their G1 counterparts.

i don't like the fact that they shatter into tiny tiny pieces to form robots. i meant, come on, adding headlight and tyres isn't enought to give them a transformer look.
but i like the toys.
