Should Optimus Prime be killed off in the next movies?

I've heard some posts about this all over the net. This may be something that has been worn out here, I don't know. But, does anyone thing Optimus Prime should be killed off in the movie series? I most certainly do NOT! I was kinda nervous when watching the first movie. I thought Optimus was going to do the ever famous "sacrificial death", but I was glad that didn't happen. Anyway, I don't think he should be killed period. What do you all think?

I definitely don't want to see it happen.
Mainly for 2 reasons--
1. It's already been done.
2. I DO NOT want to see a Hot Rod or Magnus step into a "leader role".
For that matter, I can't think of a character that I could see being leader of the Autobots successfully in a movie.

Yeah, I actually think that the live action movies will have a different outcome. In the 86 movie, characters were killed off with little or no effort for the sake of making more $$$ on toys.
Also, Bay might delibertly do things differently just becasue of the 86 movie. It is a fact, I think, that Jazz was one of the few 86 movie suvivors, and ended up the only autobot killed in the '07 movie.
Oh, and by the way, welcome to the boards A-3!

I do want Optimus Prime to be killed off, as a cliffhangar for 3. Because it's been done. To me it's one of those staple TF elements.
And then in 3, while the Autobots are leaderless (not with some lame replacement step in) and are backed into the wall, Prime comes back in a way better form, such as combining with Ultra Magnus RiD style, for instance.
Upgrades are a staple of TF's as well, since it's based on marketing.

Who says that has to happen? Because it did in G1?

Nope, they need more imagination then killing Prime. In fact, I'd altogether not watch anymore if they follow that storyline.

I had a slightly bad feeling seeing the movie the first time when prime said while standing on the Griffith observatory "It's been an honor serving with you all" he was ready to sacrifice himself and considered they might do it but I don't think they'd be able to keep that a secret from anyone so I that they were just trying to sway some emotion thinking he might get killed but they knew the huge outcry that would happen if they did that.
Personally I think it would be a bad idea not only because we've already seen it but they need to try some new things.
I don't mind some elements of characters or plot lines being used again but if we are to do everything that's already been done before 25 years later these might as well just be traditionally drawn animated movies otherwise why spend 200 million or more on each film ?

maybe devastator could kill prime

JK JK.
I think its been overdone and I kinda thought it was gonna happen in TF1 But I'm expecting it to happen in one of the upcoming movies. I hope IF it happens,Magnus,Ironhide or a more deserving Autobot usurps him then hot rod.But no I do not welcome prime's death.

Honestly, I'm sick of Prime dying and being resurrected.
Along with the concept of Galvatron being a rebuilt Megatron, those are seriously overused ideas....

It's stupid for the past to repeat itself. I doubt Bay will kill of Prime anytime soon.

How about Megatron teaming up with Prime in the third and they become pals again
Man, noone would see that coming. All nice and fluffy like.

IMO, if they kill off Prime, let him
stay dead. Resurrection should only be preserved for Unicron and Primus.
I hated the stupid voiceover they added to the very end of some versions of the 1986 film, stating Prime would return (which happened in the following cartoon season) Letting him stay dead (and Jazz and the dead Cons please, too) adds far more drama and weight to the series.

I really hope they don't kill off Prime, but if they do, then he should stay dead. I'm so sick of characters that die and then are 'magically' resurrected. Such a lame plot point. This isn't Friday the 13th or Nightmare on Elm Street or even Star Trek; Yes, Spock is iconic, but his premature death and subsequent resurrection was totally poopy.
Also, killing off a character and then having them return as a 'ghost' is also pretty lame. I know, everyone loves Obi-Wan, but his ghost was one of Lucas' dumber ideas.

WARNING!!! *SPIDERMAN 3 SPOILERS*
Too cheesey to me! Just like in Spiderman 3 when at the end he makes peace with the Sandman and he happily flew away, you know at some point he will come back to help save spidey in the future just like the goblins son did in spiderman 3, very lame and using a tuning fork to defeat venom ? LOL

Sound as a weakness for Venom has been a major plotpoint in his comics for years

The only good thing I want to see even close to Prime dying is him getting thrashed in a battle and getting repaired and "improved" with a new (not completely different) alt mode.
Newer eye candy for us, and another toy for Hasbro.
Everyone wins.

Prime is one of the most popular TF character by any standard. He should not be killed. Otherwise, it's a sure bet he will be revived again. And that's not gonna be good.
Just give him some near-death experience. But don't kill him.
