Frank Welker to play a Robot in Transformers Movie?

From http://www.darkhorizons.com:

Meanwhile, Hugo Weaving has apparently won the role of voicing Megatron in the upcoming Transformers movie reports The IESB.

Weaving and Frank Welker, who voiced the cartoon version, have been in 'rumoured competition' for the role for a few months and now it seems the Aussie actor won out.

Never fear though cartoon fans, Welker will apparently voice a robot in the film anyhow - but not Megatron.

If true, this is great news! In addition to being a great nod to the fans, adding the most prolific voice actor in the business today to the cast is a great move!

Forgot to remove the End Italics after the last line there.
I hope ol' Frank gets a good role. He deserves it.

This makes me feel a little better. He is one of the greatest of all time. If he can play Curious George he could do anything that Hugo could. Still if he played Frenzy or Soundbyte I would be a little happier. Actually the more I think about it SCREW THAT make Welker Megs and make Hugo play someone else!

I had a pretty good feeling this would happen. If you compare Welkers voice acting to other on screen actors (in number of films) Welker has most any big star out there today beat by a mile.

Hmmm I'll put my vote down for.... Starscream.

Edit: Or Ratchet. He has the swiss army knife of voices.

Starscream? Or maybe Barricade? I think he's the only other Decepticon that has a speaking line in the film.

He could play an Autobot too, Ironhide anyone?

My guess is another Decepticon. I still demand Alan Alda for Ratchet.

I would have liked to see Frank get Megatron, but I'm fine with Weaving. This Megs looks so far removed from the one Frank voiced, it just wouldnt work IMO. I'm happy Frank will get SOMETHING. Maybe Blackout? He could end up voicing an Autobot for all we know.

Alan Alda as Ratchet...that's PERFECT! All he'd need is a giant martini glass with energon in it...

I know Welker did more than just Megs in the cartoon. Can anyone else post a list of the bots he played?

Welker as Starscream would be delightfully, perfectly ironic don't you think? Starscream wants Megatron's job...we wanted Welker to have Weaving's job. it's a perfect fit!

Self-inflicted stasis-lock is painless, it brings on many changes....

Small victory of sorts...good to hear that he will be there in some form. Hope he uses the same voice for Megs in the robot he will represent in the new film.

Cripes. I'd see Welker playing any of the countless characters he actually already voiced than any of these new ones. Of course, Megs would be my first choice of any of them.

They needed a 'big' name for the bag guy so i understand the decision to cast Weaving, and as long as Welker is given freedom to enjoy whatever part he plays ill be happy.

PostPosted: Mon Mar 26, 2007 12:35 pm
by Barricade

I had a feeling he'd be in there somewhere. As for which character? I'd guess Frenzy or Ratchet. he did Frenzy back in the day too, if memory serves. Hell, he was most of the Decepticon cast in '84 and one or two of the Autobots, too.

Given what he's usually sought out to play, he'll probably be voice acting Scorponok.

Watch, in true Hollywood fashion Welker will be voicing everybody but Optims and Megatron! He'll even be doing pickup on several real people and every explosion will be him saying "kablooie". Seriously any man who came do both the ultimate black cat (Ravage) and the ultimate black dog (Ace from Batman Beyond) can do anything they need but watching G1 and Beast Machines back to back, I'd have taken Kaye over Welker for Megs.
