You know what? I don't really remember Prowl featuring heavily in anything.

Me either. I'm a big fan of prowl, but I'm still gonna see the movie. I don't think that because one character isn't present that that should keep you from seeing it. Trivial details IMHO...

Wouldn't this be better for you than the animated movie, since he dies about five minutes in?

seriously. i'm not trying to be rude or anything, but i've never understood how the character got such a big fan base. in the cartoon pretty much the only memorable thing about him was his death, and he didn't really do much of note in the marvel comics either. it wasn't until the dreamwave comics that he actually got a significant role, and that was a response to his fanbase, not a cause of it.

honestly, using examples from the '80s canon (since that's where he gained his large following), could somebody please tell me what makes prowl a fan favorite beyond "he's a police car" and "he looks cool?"

He uses the term "cast-iron manifolds" which I can only imagine is the robot equivalent of balls, in that context.

We could make the agurment that a lot of characters from G1. The truth of the matter is the fan base has built up the personalities of a lot of the Transformer characters. For instance: In G1 can you recall any episode where Sunstreaker acted narcisitic(sp?)? Tracks was more self centered then Sunstreaker was protrayed. Yet he is seen as the more self-loving bot.

Prowl is portrayed as a "by-the-book" boy and useing that simple truth you can add more to that by useing your imagination. By nature we know the Autobots throw the book out the window for the greater good. Logically that kinda stuff must tick Prowl off and makes for great storytelling.

That's all it is...storytelling.

No offense, but that is probally one of the top five worst ideas for not seeing this movie I've come across yet.

Years ago I used to post as Megatarius at Nightwind's Transfan Asylum. Look at three random posts over there and tell me you still don't understand people's love of Prowl, I double dare you.

I was the first person ever banned from that board, and the reason they aren't allowed to discuss politics. :-P

The only thing that has given me an interest in Prowl is IDW's comic series. That and I bought Hasbro's reissue late last year (my first Datsun mold) and really liked it.

I certainly don't remember him from the G1 cartoon or Marvel comics that well, though.

who cares why a person likes a certain g1 character or characters! they all have their own reasons for liking them and that's that. not everyone has to just like op and megs. now the reason why i'm not going to see this movie is simple....there are no tf's in it! these bayformers are not tf's. to me they're just ugly deformed horribly designed regular robots that by coincedence "transform". to start a new franchise is one thing but to basically totally igmore the history of the franchise is unacceptable in my opinion.

IIRC Prowl also served as interim leader in the US comics while OP was decapitated and kidnapped. Most of his personality comes from the toybox description, where I believe he's described as the most efficiently logical strategist the G1 autobots have. Those things by themselves would be enough to ingrain him in the minds of many.

So um... he was a police car... and he looked cool... and I had his toy. =p

As a kid Prowl was one of my favorite characters... and I still think he's pretty cool, but nah, he hasn't really had a major role in any media I've read (I want to read the IDW Comics but I haven't gotten a chance to)

Just because he wasn't terribly important doesn't mean you can't like him. I wouldn't bash people for liking Skids, all he ever did was become Blitzwing's chair. And belive me, Skids could use as much attention he can get. I didn't even know he existed until I got the DVDs. =)

TFs are toys after all, and liking a character because he had a cool toy is a pretty valid reason for liking him. Fort Max got about 30 seconds of screentime, and I'd say he's still pretty cool.

I'm a little disappointed the movie lacks Prowl and especially Wheeljack, but if there's ever a sequel, I'd wager they'd be in it.

Fun fact: G1 was a poopy kids cartoon from the '80s. Here's why!:

1. The characters were primarily one-sided. (Yes, Starscream, we get it. You want to be leader of the Decepticons, can you shut up now? You're about as deep as a frisbee) And that's not the least of it.

2. The transformations were very lame. Hell, Hot Rod transformed three different ways from robot to car and back. And that leads too:

3. Lame robot design. At least after seeing later series. And the movie.

4. The First movie. I used to like it, but then I hit puberty, and it was about as cool as Ronald McDonald. Not to mention the whole point of it was to sell new toys. That's why they killed off Prime, Ironhide, Brawn, and most of the other characters.

5. The stories. No, just...no.

6. Season 3.

Do you need more? I can get more, but it'll take time.

I'd agree with all of those except point 6. I preferred season 3 over the previous two. Not that season 3 was very good in its own right. Wait, maybe I do agree with you.
