Nominated for "two" Academy awards huh? whoops....time to head back to Sesame Street...LOL

THere was no doubt in ANYONE'S minds that TF would be up for Effects, but I have to admit I'm surprised on the sound editing and mixing. I also have to express disappointment in not seeing Steve Jablonsky nominated for his score; personally I thought it was one of the most complelling and exciting scores I've heard since Star Wars: Ep II...the Duel of the Fates track from that movie was just awesome.

Agreed, the score was excellent. Now, has anyone seen all the movies TF is competing against? Could you give us your honest thoughts about the movie's chances?

Cool! I'm hoping it lands the Visual Effects oscar. It'd be a great way to keep the franchise in the public eye, and the visuals in that movie were really good.

I know, but for now - because of the new forums - we can't post news from already existing threads. Every news story needs a new thread, but the problem is being worked on.

Technical crap as usual

They do this for almost any sci fi movie

Why wasn't it nominated for best song?

Not really that much of a surprise. The REAL surprise will be if TF actually wins the awards.

When are the oscars being televised?

And like THAT the Oscars are suddenly as meaningless as the Grammys.

<Ed McMahon'D>HA HA! YOU ARE CORRECT, SIR! HI YO!</Ed McMahon'D>

Anywho...

I'll admit, I'm surprised they got nominated at all. (even in Hollywood, that carries some weight, so that puts us on the map, even if the $800+ million worldwide didn't)

Three nominations is nothing short of a miracle, really.

I doubt they'll get more than one, but I don't think they've got much competition in the visual effects catagory.

I heard The Golden Compass was stunning, but nothing groundbreaking.

POTC: At World's End was basically whirlpools, ships attacking, etc. (I have yet to see it. I found the second one to be a yawn fest...so...)

TransFormers actually brought machines to life and realistically so. I have to admit that the visuals were far better than I ever imagined they could be.

If they don't win, it's a crying shame. Not for us, but for the work that went into it. There's actual quality in the bots themselves, and that kind of work shouldn't go unnoticed.

Don't get me wrong, I understand where you're coming from (to a certain extent) but put your bias and movie hate aside for one moment...

Even the haters have admitted, on occasion, that if nothing else, the robots looked 100% real and that it was impressive how lifelike they looked.

I somehow knew that Transformers would be considered for a best visual effect academy award, but getting nominated, not just for special effects but also for best sound and best sound editing is a big new years surprise, I will definitely be tuning in to the Oscars this year to see if TF wins!
