Hasbro has taken the movie merchendise to a whole new level. i just found a auction for a transformers paint set, what on earth has this got to do with the movie? is the old saying "money makes the world go round" is true. its like the new cocopops advert "give youre kids a bowl of cereal in the morning and after school then for dinner and for desert"

Hasbro licensed the Transformers name and images out to a multitude of companies to produce a multitude of things from paint sets to bye bye boo boo icepacks to pencil cases and so on.

It's called making money. The majority of companies aim to do that these days.

Is this a real advert or are you just joking?

Anyway, yes, there's tons of merchandise. I remember, as a child, I was in two minds about merchandise. Stuff that was branded but useful, like Real Ghostbusters stationery sets, I enjoyed but random things (like the current TF movie laser pen that projects Optimus onto the wall) I never got into. I wonder how children today react to all this merchandise.

Hasbro isn't the one making the merchandise unless there is a branding on it indicating it was specifically manufactured by Hasbro. In many cases a company, ANY company, can approach Hasbro and say, "I want to make a product with the Transformers on it." (READ: I want to jump on the bandwagon in hopes that I can sell a bunch of my product.) Hasbro then would tell them how much it will cost to use the brand and what types of products they CAN'T be. Inane or harmless products are probably not worried about and their actual tie-in to Transformers isn't even an issue. Obviously, Hasbro wants money like any business would, so I'd be questioning the companies who thought it was good marketing to invest in such a license to create a product that may not appeal to the Transformers demographic. Perhaps they pay a portion of their proceeds instead of a huge lump sum?
