If Megatron had had an Earth form...

What do you think he'd have been? Assume he'd gotten to scan something. Looking at his cybertronian form, he can fly like Starscream and he seemed fond of doing so(what, with taking Prime thru a building and all), so he'd probably have picked something capable of flight and like the other Decepticons, probably a military vehicle. So going by that, I was thinking about what kind of aircraft would fit his size. Megatron is supposedly slightly larger than Starscream, correct? So the F22 (65 feet) wouldn't fit as well. So that also rules out the F-15 and probably the F-14 (especially since it was phased out by filming). The F-111 would be roughly his size, but it too was long in retirement. The B-1B is much too big. The B-2 has roughly the same size problem as the B-1, being 172 feet wide. Other consideration, the eurofighter Typhoon, but it's likely too small at only 52 feet long.

The only thing I could come up with that's bigger then the F-22 and would fit the role was the SU-27/30 or SU-33. It's 7 feet longer or so, weighs more, and is still in active service the world over.

The cool thing about the SU-33 is that it's the carrier based version of the SU-27/30, so if there was a decepticon hiding as a carrier out there, it'd be at home on deck.

Down side to both is that they virtually don't exist in America, except for maybe an international airshow exhibit or such. So if he was here, it wouldn't be a good disguise.

So what would your image of his alt mode be?

Dude, let me introduce you to the A-10 Thunderbolt II, better known to most as the Warthog.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A-10_Thunderbolt_II

It's not the biggest jet out there, but it's a mean one, extremely tough and heavily armed. This jet can, in all likelihood, pwn all the others clear into the ground. So if you're looking for a flying badass can of pure ownage, look no further.

If your're complaining that it's too small, remember; Blackout is actually a bit taller than Megatron. That means his alt mode would be larger. More height = more mass = bigger alt mode. SO, logically, Megatron's alt mode would be a TEENY bit smaller than Blackout's alt mode, whatever kind of helicopter that is.

As to whether they're in the US, my grandparents live near a military base and they've see these suckers fly over a few times.

So...

Heavily armed? Check.
Extremely tough? Check.
Badassitude? Check.
Present in the US? Check.

When Megatron took an Earth alt mode in my fanfic, this was what he chose.

I'd considered the Warthog early on, but it's much to small (52 feet long) to be Megatron imo. Figuring no "mass shifting", I don't think it'd be enough to fit his form. That's significantly smaller overall then the F-22 that Starscream chose.

Blackout's alt mode is huge though. The MH-53 is 85 feet long, 25 feet tall, but it's also hollow for the troop compartment.

I think something better than the Su-32 is the Su-47 Berkut and since Frenzy operated through the internet, he could download files that contain data of experimental jets.

I looked at that as well, but had not seriously considered it because of the experimental part. So, I'm having a change of heart. I really do like it, and I could definitely see it, since it's so radical looking (kinda looks like Starscream from the new Animated with the forward swept wings). And the part about Frenzy getting it for him is imaginative, me likey. :APPLAUSE:

I think we're forgetting that Megatron needs an altmode relative to his size. Any jets are too small for him. I'd say something bigger like a gunship for the next film.

True, true... But how are gunships in terms of maneuverability? Seems to me like we need something strong AND fast.

Anybody know of any large big jets that are also agile in the air?

It is? And... uh... who's Powerglide?

I know the 2007 movie, and I know jets. Apparently I know little else.

I was considering a rockwell B-1 Lancer bomber. It has a sinster look which I believe would suit megatron well.

Another notable thing about this unit is that the middle to back part of the bomber with the swept wings could form a sort of cape when Megs would be in robot mode. Sort of like The G2 Orange Hooligan http://www.seibertron.com/toys/fullsize ... 1&image=27. It would give megatron a very tyrannical look IMO.

Sweet, but Megatron doesn't seem like the kind of guy who'd just cruise and drop bombs. He'd be more of a fighter, going after enemies and kicking their asses.

He doesnt have to be armed with bombs, he's an advanced alien, he can improvise. He might look like a bomber from the outisde but he can have his own custom armament. 8)

Personnaly I find that the B-1 Lancer is a good earth mode for him, Its sinister looking and I like the idea of the rear part forming a sort of cape when in robot mode. It just suits him so well IMO.

Your all forgeting that in the film Megatron was 35 ft.So he's to small for a jet. Also Starscream's Robot mode is 55 ft., so he's already bigger then Megatron.

im not sure he'd work as an earth vehicle. I liked him exactly as he was. He's a nutter, so he doesnt seem too bothered about hiding.

It would definatly be some new experimental design that would be so fricken huge and probably have some TIE engines for that break the sound barier speed

Megatron can be a space shuttle. That will make him huge.

He then defeat Prime with the use of only his little finger.

Kind of what I said but I wanted to go with a sort of experimental space shuttle design.

Starscream's official height is 31 ft-- the designers purposely made him stocky to make him shorter than Megatron. The 55 ft reference comes from some fan's odd measurements on the toy.

That is one sweet jet, but it's only got a reduced radar signature as opposed to full stealth technology, unlike the Lancer. Plus I think the harsh angularity of the lancer would make him look that much more sinister.

The SR-71 is very good but don't you think it's a little out of date. This jet was retired some time ago. I'm assuming that Decepticons who are looking for an earth form would want to find a vehicle that is in active service with the military of the country they are in. Seeing an SR-71 fly would be a little out of place as it has been withdrawn from service and would sort of arouse more suspicion. If you examine starscream in the movie his alt-mode was a modern day Raptor which was supposedley in active service with the USAF and he was able to blend in at the airfield he was hiding in as a parked jet.

That is Unless Megatron decides to blend in at an air force museum as an SR-71 on display.

Just my opinion though.
