How Are They Going To Cover Up The Mission City Battle?

At the end of the movie, it was alluded to that they were going to cover up the existence of the TFs responsible for the Mission City battle. They are going to say it was something else.
But how. Even if the those in power have control over the media all all sort of resources, what are they going to do about all the people in that city who saw the robots? What if anyone took pictures?

The people would be threatened, then possibly silenced, and the pictures would be located, claimed as hoaxes and then destroyed.

What Mission city?
(nukes Mission City)
I heard and saw absolutely nothing about a robot called Optimus Prime settling his scores with another robot called Megatron fighting inside this strange "Mission City" as you call it.

Yeah, but alot of people saw them. Seems like half the town. How can they find and silence that many people?
Even if they have control over mainstream media, what if those people go on a paranormal radio talk show like Coast To Coast AM with Art Bell or George Noory and discuss the robot sightings?

They'll find a way. They'll always find a way. Plus, they'll do everything in their power to cancel these shows or discredit witnesses.

OMG! Can you imagine that! They are so desparate to cover up the existance of the Transformers the pentagon orders the complete destruction of Mission City and then blames it on terrorists?! Makes our government FAR more evil than the Decepticons!

remember the "earthquakes" and things going on in the arrival to earth scenes ? people said "there's something in the trees", other people thought they were earthquakes others said it was secret military craft and others said ufo's and aliens...look at the roswell case and it's the same thing.
no need to nuke a town but rather let all of the existing theories conflicting stories and so on run a muck in all of the confusion because long story short is nobody would really believe most of the witnesses at the end of the day because there are too many faked ufo videos and photo shopped pictures out there.

Roswell is different. In the alleged Roswell incident, a UFO crashed in the middle of nowhere near a military base. There were not many witnesses, civilian or military.
The Transformers battle, on the other hand, took place in a major city in front of 10s to 100s of people. What, the government is going to say that 100s of people who all saw the same thing on the same day are crazy?

The best bet would be to bribe the entire city popualtion. "We'll give you this if you keep quiet on what happened. It's the best option."

My bets gonna be they're gonna have to tell everyone eventually not much besides a bomb is going to cause that much damage. And naturally people took pics and stuff so the government is prolly gonna have to admit it.

Actually the list of witnesses is more extensive than most people realize it's just been lost to 60 plus years of history but telling the world all of them were pretty much crazy is a big part of it too.

Oh please. Hopefully the government has more brains than to assume that everyone is that retarded.

Still, Roswell happened a long time ago, in the middle of nowhere, and I'm sure there weren't nearly as many witnesses as there were in Mission City.
It seems that the only way to completely cover up the incident in Mission City is to confiscate as much evidence as possible, kill everyone in the city (since the government does not know the witnesses from the non-witnesses), and then blame the mass deaths on terrorists. Kind of like how they covered up the dead infected bodies in the first X-Files movie.

Funny that you of all people would mention the X-Files

Many of you are giving the governement to much credit. Forst of all, the government would be able to stop the THOUSANDS of people who witnessed it, silent. Second, the government would never blow up an entire city. That's crazy talk and we don't live in communist U.S.S.R. and it would just never happen here in the states. I mean seriously, it's VERY unrealistic to think either of those are a probability.
Why is it so wrong to allow humans to know about the robots? None of the other series had the robots hiding from civilization. Why should this movie? They don't need to be hidden from civilization. There was too much damage and thousands of witnesses already. Starscream has gone for help so the Decepticons know where to return so at this point, there is no reason to cover it up, IMHO.

If they were to cover up the incident they could say terrorists attacked the city after releasing some hallucinogens or something. The hallucinogens could explain why people "thought" they saw giant robots and terrorists for the damage.
Did they say in the movie or the comics and novels or other sources say whether they were covering up the incident or providing the public with information?

In all seriousness, I don't think many people recognized the TFs as giant robots. They're so complex and organic looking that most people would be thinking of alien/magical monsters. It was pretty clear they weren't governmental or military experiments. It makes no sense to cover up a mass sighting of extraterrestials duking it out, since the government doesn't hold any secrets about some secret project.

You'd think the government would want to let this out in the open. How much better press can you get than, "Americans beat the crap out of evil alien robot monsters"? The only way to make it better is if they simultaneously cured AIDS in the process.

I took the ending as they were making sure that if any bots came to earth looking for megatron and the others wouldn't find anything and would move onto another place to look for them. though it's been a while since I really watched the movie so I don't totally remember what happened at the end...
