Quantum Computers from Transformers Movie Plausible?

People who thought the storyline in the Michael Bay Transformers Movie, where the Decepticons hacked the Pentagon computers using software that was based on Quantum Mechanics was too far fetched, might have to rethink that notion.
A news item has appeared on the website of The Science Daily, that claims that the premise of Quantum Computers is no longer the stuff of Science Fiction, but could soon become the stuff of Science Fact. Prem Kumar, the AT&T Professor of Information Technology in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and the director of the Center for Photonic Communication and Computing, and his research group are one step closer to realizing that technology. The group recently demonstrated one of the basic building blocks for distributed quantum computing using entangled photons generated in optical fibers.
