StarScream's design works like this...

I thought this would go unnoticed in another thread (Which, so far, it has), but it was too clever to be ignored, so here it is again:

Wikipedia [did] mention a simian design [for Starscream], which makes me think:

Have you seen simians move? They're faster and stronger than us, and better for climbing and moving.

The big arms probably add to the raptor legs in terms of running. Big arms would help Starscream move forward on his already superior legs, by way of momentum.

Think about it, when you run, don't you move your arms back and forth with every step?

Starscream's design is actually BETTER than any humanoid design in terms of movement.

That would make him the fastest Decepticon, I guess there's a method to Bay's madness.

My thoughts...

It's obvious they were going with a thematic design for Screamer. His legs aren't chicken legs, but velociraptor legs, since his alt is an F22 Raptor. And his head is clearly influenced by fighter pilot helmet designs.

:-? That seems just too well thought out for Bay and co.

No, seriously, that would make sense. Do any of the other characters have similar justifications?

yeah, ironhide, he looks like a cross between a bull and a cowboy, cant get any more of a visual interpretation of his personality than that, can you!

This is called a "flame."

Moreover, this is called a "Flame of Ingnorance" in that you cannot accept that I can think this through, and you just throw insults around because you can't accept anything outside your pathetic little '80s cartoon box.

Look, I could accept why people hate Starscream's design, but they'd have to do it without these phrases:

1. Any swear word.

2. The term "It doesn't look like Starscream," due to the fact that we've had several designs of Starscream, most of which don't look like G1.

3. Any reference to apes, monkeys, or any sort of fowl.

4. Any reference to any of the cartoon.

Think you can do that? If you can, I'll listen.

Yes, and I'm asking you to give your opinion intelligently.

So far, only a select few have been able to avoid anything on the list, and I don't know their names!

I don't like Starscream because:

a) He looks a bit top heavy.
b) His torso is very much "a plane".
c) He does not look nearly as threatening as his fellow Decepticons.
d) He's slightly bland / boring.

Is that okay? Maybe points a) and b) could be merged, as could points c) and d).

I like all the other designs, with the exception of Bumblebee (and Ratchet's face).

See? That's how it's done, kimmer. That's how you ge your point across intelligently.

And it all makes sense now.:D

Though I still think he's a bit too top heavy and dull-colored, you know?

Starscream is a jet. Think about what a jet looks like. small in the front, wide in the back...i'm not sure there's a logistical way of transforming w/o some sort of size differential...but if they are indeed going for the literalization of an actual Raptor/Fighter pilot look, i guess they nailed it.

Personally I love the way he looks and think he'll be pretty bada$$.

I have to say I still don't like his design.

And I'm going to mention monkeys. It's not a bad arguement.

The simian aspect of his appearance brings to mind thoughts of ape-like brutishness, which goes against the refined nature of his personality. The Screamer we all know and love, while being a whiner, also considers himself very sophisticated. Long arms look too ape-like, which ruins that.

Yes there's irony in that, but I don't appreciate the irony because it's unnecessary.

Maybe this new Starscream will have a different character. Maybe he won't be refined, though I'm certain he'll consider himself to be the best. I honestly can't remember much of his character from the leaked script, which must be well and truly defunct now, anyway.

Needless to say, whether one considers the design to be good or bad, I would imagine we all hope Starscream to be more than, "Me, Starscream, smash!"

Starscream was never refined. He might like you to believe he was refined, but what it came down to was summed up by Megatron quite well in War Within. He is a blunt object to be delivered with direction and force. In this he has few peers.

Being sneaky and egomaniacal is not refined. He is ambitious, cruel, and cowardly at the core.

It would be irony in a sense if this Starscream considered himself handsome as his "ancestors" had done before him, when in fact he is quite ugly.

That's all well and good, but a simian design while powerful, does not convey the vain and arrogant nature of starscreams persona. My 2 cents.
