Speculation on Jetfire

I know the rumor mill said that Jetfire would show up this time around as a SR-71, but wouldn't it be cool as all get up if he were a C-17? It would allow him to be a much bigger bot than the other autobots, and he can also give bots a lift. There have been lots of set shots centered around a C-17. Food for thought.

That's too gigantic. It's a cargo plane.

Jetfire should remain as a jet fighter. Suits his name better.

i'm still not sold on the whole Sr 71 thing.... sure its big and it looks cool.
But ist an old spyplane with no offensive or carco-carrying capabilities.....
So you are the biggest autobot around..... and you take an altform you cant use for transporting your buddies and is completly helpless in combat?
Starscream is gonna tear him apart in a second.

Not the mension the fact that bay likes to show of the military's toys (and the military is all to eager for another commercial)
A blackbird is a past generation toy at best, what's there to gain in showing of something that only exists in museums these days?

Isn't there any new jet fighter that's agile, and fast, and BIG?

Something of the caliber of Raptor. But bigger in size. What do the military have that fits the bill?

The biggest baddest bird the military has is the F22 Raptor, but starscream has that. they could use the F-35, but it would be smaller and i think its still in development. C-17 pilots (I live near Charleston Air Force Base where they are based) have told me that C-17s handle like fighters. I think it could work.

the c-17 is practically hollow so how would that translate into a huge autobot?

Not any plane i existance i can think of has both real cargo-carrying and air to air combat capabilities....
If jetfire is a plane (as long as he IS a plane , this is Michael Bay remember, jetfire can be a bycyle for al we know) and if he is gonna wanna be usefull to the autobots in vehicle mode he is gonna have to be either a cargo plane ( still leaving him vulnerabel to air attack) ,a fighterjet (good for obvious reasons), or a bomber (B2 anyone?) , giving him air to ground capability but still rendering him helpless against airborne decepticons....

i have to kinda agree with him this jet mode would work if Silverbolt was in the film but then again we dont get to see to many autobbots in black and ironhide sure does look good in black same with jetfire

I couldnt really see a huge vechicle like the SR-71 Blackbird combining with something as small as a Peterbilt truck. But If they can find someway of making this look like its 2 seperate robots ontop the other then thats fine.

I would like to see how Powerlinking is taken in these movies.

If i may say... looking back at G1. Starscream and Jetfire shares practically similar jet fighter mode. They're actually the same size. It's just the cartoon that exaggerates the sizes to make Jetfire gigantic. Just to match the toy scale. (Remember, G1 was a feature length advertisement for the toys.)

So if we put the G1 purist in the shelves for a while, and look at it from a clean slate. Jetfire can take any of the modern jets similar in size to F22 of Starscream. He can even take the slightly smaller F35.

It doesn't necessarily have to work out to match the scale of G1 cartoon.

As long as he's agile, packs a lot of fire-power, and can reign in air supremacy over the numerically superior airborne of Decepticons, i think it should work.

i would like to see jetfire as an Lockheed F-117 Nighthawk

The Lockheed F-117 Nighthawk is a stealth ground attack aircraft formerly operated by the United States Air Force. The F-117A's first flight was in 1981, and it achieved Initial Operational Capability status in October 1983. The F-117A was "acknowledged" and revealed to the world in November 1988.

A product of the Skunk Works and a development of the Have Blue prototype, it became the first operational aircraft initially designed around stealth technology. The F-117A was widely publicized during the Gulf War of 1991.

The Air Force retired the F-117 on 22 April 2008,[2] primarily due to the purchasing and eventual deployment of the more effective F-22 Raptor and F-35 Lightning II.

I don't know if Bay or even the military will want to feature obsolete fighters.

But this is a good one. Unfortunately retired this year. If the sequel movie have only been a bit earlier.

I think Jetfire should be huge, so a big cargo plane would be appropriate for him, and he would be able to carry the Autobots around. Also, what about the AC-130? That's large, and also heavily armed. I also saw a good fan concept of Jetfire turning into a B1 Lancer bomber, which is another very big plane and has something of a resemblance to his G1 alt.

Wasn't Jetfire a cargo plane in one of the recent cartoons?*

I remeber the toy, which powerlinked with Prime, as a large cargo plane or bomber. The toy was painted green and white/gray.

Regarding the powerlinking, has anyone thought Prime might reside inside another Bot like he did with Omega Supreme?

*Sorry, I have only watched G1, Beast Wars, Beast Machines, and Animated. My knowledge of the other shows comes from the toys.

also worth noting:
sr-71 is an obsolete jet that has no offensive or cargo capabilities

it was a camera on wings

Didn't we already see pics of a ROTF Legends-class figure that was an SR-71?
Wasn't that figure called Jetfire and posed in something similar to a gerwalker?

Just saying...

But, on the other hand, we were also told to expect a "geriatric" robot.
What better one than a retired jet from the Cold War?
Perhaps it was Sector 7's doing all along.

As they said in Space Cowboys: "SR71, this is what an airplane is supposed to be. She’s ugly on the ground, leaks like a sieve, but up around Mach 1, the seals all expand, she dries up, leans into the wind and flies like a bat out of hell."

This *is* the Bayverse we're talking about.
Never assume anything.

But seriously, I was just throwing random stuff out there.
I was all hopped up on Doritos and Dr. Pepper, so what can I say?

Maybe Jetfire will just be an Aurora.

It'd be a heck of a way for the Air Force to reveal their big Black Ops program. :-p
