ENewsI has a new article up reporting on the very recent deal struck between Dreamworks and Universal Studios.

Steven Spielberg's DreamWorks Pictures announced on Monday that they have inked a distribution deal with Universal Studios. The distributor will receive an eight percent fee for their work.

DreamWorks 2.0, as Mr. Spielberg dubbed it, will now have the greater flexibility of approving and producing the products of their choice, a change from when the company was a wholly-owned subsidiary of Viacom, Inc.'s Paramount Pictures.

The studio announced their new-found independence last week when they struck a deal with Reliance ADA's Reliance Big for $500 million in equity.

Mr. Spielberg will continue to produce the Transformers franchise for Paramount and will also collaborate on three other Paramount films including, "When Worlds Collide." Here is the official press release:

Hardly surprising, since Universal is where Spielberg's career took off and thrived ("Jaws", "E.T.", "Jurassic Park" producing BTTF, etc.).

Hmmmm! Not too dissimilar from the comment I made in the thread announcing Spielbergs split. If I remember my comment correctly it started off something like "It's about damn time..." whilst everyone else (or near enough to it) was worried about the effect the split would have on the TF movie franchise. The man is just too big in the industry to have anything bad come from one of his business dealings. (Don't take that to mean that none of the movies themselves aren't bad, just that his other business negotiations rarely turn out bad. The films themselves are a purely subjective issue so don't waste your time even going there with me).
