Seibertron.com reported way back here that Transformers Movie Director Michael Bay said that there will not be an extended addition DVD release of the Transformers Movie. According to a rumor floating around, Paramount Pictures thinks otherwise.

As reported at DigitalBits.com, the film could see an extended addition release in 2009, most likely coinciding with the opening of Revenge of the Fallen. The extra footage will be that of the IMAX release, which was estimated at about 2 more minutes plus of footage.

No other details have been mentioned. Seibertron.com will keep you informed as more information becomes available.

While I usually have no problem with collecting varied Transformer items... especially the movie (including the HD-DVD, along with the FYE-exclusive Autobot & Decepticon cases, the WalMart-exclusive animated comic disc, the Target-exclusive transforming Optimus case, the Barnes&Noble-exclusive booklet and the recent transforming Megatron case), I would be really pissed off if they added features to this extended cut. It would mean that we all would end up shelling out money for the movie we REALLY wanted. Some of us may have will power, but as for me,... I will be buying this. I just hope it's a single-disc Blu-Ray realease with no special features what so ever so that we can all appreciate our past purchases...

This is exactly why I haven't yet bought a copy, and why I also wont be buying Iron Man, Incredible Hulk or Hellboy II any time soon. I never believed for a moment that we wouldn't see an extended cut when the sequel comes out, despite Bay's claims. It seems to be standard practice with franchise movies these days...

Well, I am not about to go spend another $20 for two minutes of footage. Usually the stuff they cut out of a movie was cut out for a reason. I really don't think that two minutes is going to show something we didn't already see in the movie.

Two minutes of "extended footage." What a rip.

as i recall, these extra scenes were just more "human" interest(fig's fate, more with the cop)which is something that this movie abused in spades so no thank you

Yeah, if it was more character development for say, Jazz who died or Starscream who had all of 20 seconds of screen time, I'd get it in a heartbeat. But more of Shia Lebouf or Megan (not nearly a) Fox or Captain What's-his-name I can do without, so pass.

If it is only the 2 minutes from the IMAX version then I suggest everyone save their money. It was only human interaction stuff. The best part of IMAX was the sound and picture quality not the additional footage.

I saw the IMAX release and the only good extended part I liked was with Agent Simmons saying how Hoover Dam was Area 50 or something like that. Otherwise, there was nothing that was impressive.

The only parts that were added to this movie were as follows:

  • Before heading to the lake party, Sam is shown picking Miles up at his house. Miles derides Sam's choice of car colors.
  • After Sam is questioned by the sheriff at the police station, he is given an anti-drug bumper sticker and shown the "This is Your Brain on Drugs" PSA starring Rachel Leigh Cook.
  • After abducting Sam and Mikaela, Agent Simmons uses a device to monitor Sam's pupil dilation while interrogating him in the truck. He also remarks that he has "been there" when it comes to women with criminal records.
  • Upon arriving at Hoover Dam, Simmons remarks colorfully that it is "Area 50". A few minutes later, he lists the nicknames of all the U.S. Presidents to have toured the facility.
  • In Mission City, Lennox acquires short-range radios from a gun-toting, but easily-flattered, pawn shop owner.

All this makes up the additional two minutes of added footage.

And that's still not all that was cut from the movie. When I was watching the bonus material on the movie 2-disc DVD, they showed about two seconds of a scene where Sam and his dad leave the police station, but I couldn't hear what they were saying because of the narration and then it cut back to one of the the filmmakers talking.

On top of that, some of the previews show a second of the scene that shows Fig's "death", which was also cut from the film. Not to mention the whole "The killer robot is really distracting!" scream made by Glen, as well as the lines by Keller, "We are facing war agianst a technological civilization far superior to our own. The enemy can change onto any form. They could be anywhere." were also cut from the film. And wasn't it said that Barricade's death was cut as well so he could be in the sequel?

So, even with the IMAX footage, we still may never get to see the FULL "completely un-cut" version of the movie. :BANG_HEAD:

Oh wow. I know that even though I don't care about the extra footage, I'll buy it anyways.... sigh... Sometimes I hate being a fanboy.

Pass. It's just more human scenes and not enough robot action, knowing this it will most likly be footage from the Imax version. Not much of an extended edition.

I saw Imax version, wasnt much added really. Was all human scenes, though seeing it on Imax was totally sweet otherwise. Alot of the shots panned out more, so you got a cleaner look at stuff, and really could see details on the bots ,amoung other things, like you could see fillings in woman who screams mouth as Ironhide flips over her its that detailed hehe. From what i remember being added...

- Miles and Sam talking in front of his house, he mocks bumble bee being yellow and stuff.

- Cop shows sam a brain on drugs film before he leaves.

- Extended chat with Simons in the truck before prime crashes it.

- Talk between simons and the soldiers , as they refer to the damn as area 50.

- Simmons talks about the importance of sector 7 before showing the all spark.

- Rhonda, the owner of the Pawn shop and Captain Lennox have an exchange of words.

Thats bulk of what I remember being added from the original version. Actually only thing did was flesh out simmons alittle better as you get a bigger picture of what makes him tick. He was really only character hurt by the deleted scenes. Wasnt any major loss, but could easily just been left in for slight time it would added. It been nice if it showed more bot time, like where hell barricade went and stuff, but guess gotta wait till two see that.
