An article has appeared on Digital Spy where Micheal Bay claims Megatron will not appear in Transformers 2 due later this year.

The article reads,

Michael Bay has revealed that villain Megatron will not be a part of Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen.

The director denied that the character makes an appearance in the movie sequel, due out this summer, insisting that a recent toy of the Decepticon is not related to the film.

"He's not in this movie. That's not misinformation. The tank design you may have seen is just Hasbro coming up with a new toy," he told Empire.

Instead, new villain The Fallen will oppose the Autobots in the summer blockbuster, while new Decepticon Devastator will appear in the Pyramid sequence.

"Imagine six or seven or eight massive earth-moving vehicles, with tires as big as [a] tree. It's going to be gigantic," Bay said of the latter.

See the article HERE

I don't think that its anything that we didn't know already.

In fairness to Hasbro, they made a whole bunch of figures in the movie line that didn't appear in the first film.

Plus, the name Megatron is bound to sell a toy no matter if it is in the film or not.

I suppose time will tell, I think he will be in the movie. Maybe right at the end in order to set up the third film.

This is true. So we really do not know how many bots and cons will be in this movie. We cannot base them off the toys.

I guess thats where Digital Spy swiped the information from. Could still be lies, but I doubt it.

you also gotta remember that in order to keep the trademarks and copyrights, plus its all about the franklins, they need to produce something down the line that will keep it tied to the company so that they can still claim it as theirs.

Maybe there is a reborn Megatron with another name....
Let's say Galvatron for example...
Like the 1986 movie when dying Megatron was transformed into Galvatron by Unicron...

:-?

Poor Megatron. He never seems to last very long. He was robbed of his leadership in issue #5 of Marvel, jettisoned into space and turned into Galvatron in TF:TM, jettisoned into space during volume #2 of Dreamwave, turned into Galvatron in RID, turned into Galvatron in Armada, turned into Galvatron in Energon, turned into Galvatron in Cybertron and now he's possibly been let go after only one film.

Ah, he'll come back, right?

That would be really cool. Maybe they could wait until the Fallen character is not in the limelight for something like that. Maybe wait till TF3. Megs can never take a back seat to any other Con. Only to Unicron or something apocalyptic like that, maybe the Fallen character. It might well just be a toy. But if it is, it is a totally new design of him which is not heard of in the movie line. I suspect Bay may be lying, but I hope ROTF ends with the lines: "we shall see Galvatron. We shall see..."

I still believe that the Fallen will indeed be the main villain of ROTF.
And then - after the Autobots finally vanquish the great evil - the Decepticons will awaken their fallen leader (much to Starscream's dismay, mind you).
The final shot we'll see in ROTF will be Megatron emerging from the ocean and then transforming into tank mode to go kick Autobot butt.
And - voila - the plot for TF3 is set up.

I suspect that Megatron is in fact in the movie, but not a major role. Me thinks that he will appear at the end, some sort of stupid cameo appearance that reveals the Transformer 3 plot...Actually, i wouldn't put it past Hasbro to cameo and/or promote that weird looking G.I.Joe "the international hero."

All that other slag aside, I wish Megatron would get a bigger role and a chance to be as bad@$$ as it's possible to be.
