This would be the best choice by far. Sam would sound sweet as Ironhide.

AbsumZer0, the guy in the picture you posted is Wilford Brimley, not Sam Elliot.

Sam's voice is perfect for many roles, but I just don't see it coming from a Transformer.

The usual reason is schedualing conflicts, and I assume that is the reason Michael Clarke Duncan left.

The other reason is either being an annoying actor, or creative differences with the director. Since filming hadn't begun, and neither had time to happen, we can rule this out.

Reeeeeally? I had no idea. You mean Sam Elliott isn't the guy who used to sell Quaker oats, starred in Our House, the Ewoks movies, and was the oldest-looking guy in Cocoon despite being 20 or so years younger than the rest of the cast? You mean Sam Elliott isn't the guy who went on an oatmeal-fueled rampage in River City and writes editorials in opposition to laws on cock-fighting? Whaaaaaat?

Creative conflicts. MCD apparently really wanted to be in a Transformers movie because he's a fan of the property and was set to play a role as a Navy Seal or some other character, but he thought the character as Bay pictured it was ridiculous and would be a blackmark on his credits and opted not to pursue it after all. Then the papers caught on, declared it was because of some kind of feud, and MCD came-out and set the record straight.

Of course, it was possibly just lip-service, but I'm not going to assume to know about Duncan's personal relationship with Bay.

I was being sarcastic. I'm a fan of Sam Elliot's work (well, his appearances; not the movies themselves) and know who he is. I think Wilford Brimley would make a better Ironhide though. Actually, I think Wilford Brimley would make a good anything. He's like an underused Christopher Walken or Steve Buscemi.

Eliot and Brimley would have been great but I personally wanted John Goodman.

Especially if at one point Ironhide was talking to another Autobot and some dude kept trying to talk to him and he said, "Donnie, shut the **** up."

I wouldn't be able to take Ironhide seriously if John Goodman voiced him. It was hard for me when he played Baloo in Junlge Book II. :P
