Why did they even bother killing Megatron???

I don't even see why they bothered unless if they thought the 1st wouldn't sell enough kid birthday merchandise to make a sequel. I think all resurections are very tricky to do and if written poorly deserve a raspberry. THIS movie may be the movie we were hoping to see the first time. Its kinda obvious this is the tired trilogy cliche story. for example in every trilogy or most, the bad guys win the second. I wonder if another trilogy cliche (a diff director for final film) will happen.

Well, if Megatron didn't die, how would you have the first movie end?

Rumor is that yes, it will be a trilogy, and yes, Michael Bay IS signed on already. Movie coming in 2011.

No, bad guys don't win in this one.

I would quite like a Decepticon victory. All seems lost at the end of the film, prime, bee and maybe one or two of the other autobots have retreated to space, leaving Earth fallen to the decepticons.
The the 3rd film picks up with a new army of AUtobots returning to Earth to wage war for one final time!

Also, have there been any rumours of a 4th film if 2 and 3 went down really really well? Or are we likely to get the 3 films then nothing for the near future?

well remember superman 4? i think movie studios are superstitious about the number 4. It took 19 years for Indy. At that point (transformers4) everyone will ask for so much $$$ might be hard 2 do.
heres hoping for Ultra magnus and hot rod for next film!!!

I think it will be the exact opposite.

I hope there will be one, but not right after 3. If Bay directs all 3, I wouldn't want anyone else directing 4. It would go down the way of X-Men, with Bryan Singer knocking out the first 2 and Brett Ratner trashing the last one. Also, I would like to see them wait for more advancements in technology, so that TF4 would have awesome effects and maybe even the ability to put the audience into the movie even more so than 3D.

No, I think both sides would be like " Holy *bleep*. If there's things like THAT out there, we're all going to need all the help we can get so we don't get our butts kicked."

If they put Unicron in one of the movie sequels, My GOD can you only imagine that transformation sequence?

It also might be "nuking the fridge" U know Unicron's close cousin Galactus didnt get a fair shake in character design

'Why did they even bother killing Megatron?' Apparently they didn't! Seems we mistook a knockout punch for him buying the farm.

In my opinion they killed Megs because one the good guys normally always win and two because they had no idea if they were gonna go any further with this movie franchise.

I dont see them making a lot of movies, 3 will probably be the last(successful) one. The story doesnt have enough depth for 4 or 5 movies. Yeah you can go on and on about gigantic robots fighting but most people wont pay to see it. Although the transformer world would the majority of the people wouldnt. I find it hard to talk to anyone in my area that even cares about transformers, let alone knows anything about them.

If they would have had better writers they might have been able to pull of a Harry Potter type story. By that I mean the actual depth of the story where you can make 7+ movies and keep people interested. But really how many more things can you have Sam do? I think without the live action it would be come lame. Though I would probably go see it. :)

2 words "Dramatic Effect" Thats the only reason they did it. plus look at it this way...Robots/machines can't Technically die maybe blow up or blow circuits stuff like that. they can be repaired and come back. but don't tell Bay that....

I kinda agree with you, if from the beginning they made this a movie about Transformers more so than a coming of age movie about a boy and his car, they could have done 7 movies easily ... they have so much material to work with.
Megatron's death felt very cliched, I felt nothing when he 'died' no deep sense of gratification or loss. They should have killed BB, and let him stay dead ... his death would have more of an effect.
