Movie Related Botherings! [Spoilerators]

A couple of things that have been on my mind about the movie, wanted to know peoples' thoughts.
First off, are they really taking the cheap avenue and reusing an animation model for a new character? This business with Blackout being recoloured somewhat as Grindor. This is supposed to be a big budget movie and they're using that old trick from the cartoon days? Does anyone not think that's a bit.. off? In some way? I mean, apparently Grindor isn't even explained, just showing up and getting on with it. Wouldn't it have been easier to just hint that Blackout was revived along with Megatron? This would also explain why a Buffalo Mine Sweeper is (apparently) seen in the film's climax. A single line to hint that the Constructicons worked on some other bots too would've gone so far. As it stands, this seems confusing and unnecessary. We could argue that "Some cybertronians share body types", but this doesn't stand when we remember why Skywarp and Thundercracker didn't make it in (with the same designs, at least).
As a side query, is Grindor explained in any ancillary media? Comics? Not had a chance to read.
The other thing is, Prime. I know this is Bay we're talking about here but does it bother anyone else how insanely blood thirsty and merciless he seems? The idea that Prime commands a team of Autobots to literally hunt down Decepticons like they were some kind of feral animal is... well... I appreciate that lives are at stake and the Decepticons probably shouldn't be given the chance to strike first, but that's what defines a character - When, even faced with great risks, their underlying characteristics and traits show through - That, even standing before a wild Decepticon, Prime might still offer them a chance to reform in some way, trying to maintain a peace by example.
I'm not blaming anyone, or saying "grr! This isn't right!", just airing some opinions and thoughts and wondered what others might be thinking.
