Six ways G.I. Joe could beat Transformers?

In the 1980's when Hasbro started producing both the G.I. Joe and Transformers toylines, few could have predicted that the 2 franchises would have such longevity. Over the last 25+ years, not only have both been amazingly successful, but there have always been a lot of links and comparison between the two, mainly due to sharing a toymaker, cartoon production company and several comic book companies that all worked on both franchises.
It has been suggested by many that the main reason that G.I. Joe finally earned the right to have a live action movie was directly related to the success of the first Transformers film in 2007.
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen made plenty of noise at the box office over this summer but now its momentum is all but gone and G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra is set to try making movie history of its own.
With all of this in mind, Movieretriever.com has posted a fun tongue-in-cheek article suggesting how the Joe team can top the Bots this summer.

as long as gijoe beats harry potter & twilight at the box office i dont care if its beats trasnformers at the score but honesty as gijoe fan ill laugh if transformers beats gijoe at te box office just as the critics predicted transformers would suck at teh box office & its still making money

G.I.Joe does have a fighting chance with the 2 divas in the movie with the tight leather outfits that will for sure make the crowd go wild. I'm been a transformers fan ever since i was born basically with transformers being my first word and just enjoy anything/everything that has to do with transformers. However I will be rooting for Baroness! Not a big G.I.Joe fan but COBRALALALALALALALALA! The hype is just getting to me and i must see the film opening night.

It looks Darth Vaderish to me. Like Return of the Jedi Vaderish.

Transformners?
Well, I'm kinda iffy on GI Joe.
It looks cool, but I'm not a GI Joe fan.

This bears little resemblance to the show I watched as a kid. I'm afraid this will be another in a long line of examples where Hollywood has taken a beloved cartoon, book or video game and striped away all that made it what it was, leaving nothing but the title and afew names. Dragonball.... Resident Evil.... Mario Brothers.... Final Fantasy.....
We can always hope for some cool Crossover toys though, maybe that will be one good thing.

Yeah right. Like a movie about robots could loose to a movie based on a toy line about glorified dolls. Ever meet a joe collector? You can find them in the Barbie isle before going over to action figures. I wonder how many of them are trying to con friends to go to the opening dressed as Crimson Guard men while they're dressed as Cobra Commander.

Haha, there were some "Cobra invaders" dressed just like that at Botcon this year. To be more accurate, Tomax and Xamot along with Cobra Commander and the Baroness.

I hope you promptly kicked their ass. You only have to hit one. The other feels it.

I have the same hopes and expectations for the GI JOE movie as I did for TRANFORMERS ROTF...
Not expecting much, and just trying to be entertained...

My man Delicon, great post. Hope you like the spotlight I made for it.

I'm going into Joe this weekend with a wide open mind. I'm sure it will be great.

Exactly. I really don't care which of these movies comes out on top. As long as I end up entertained, then I could very much care less. RoTF entertained me, and now I will see if G.I. Joe entertains me. I never really got into Joe as a kid, but I do want to see the movie.

I love both franchises so I don't care if they beat each other, as long as they're both beating those goddamn sparkly vampires and way too over the top horror flicks.
At least it can't be any worse than the so-bad-its-a-little-good pile the animated Joe movie was! ... Right? (Oh gawd please don't prove me wrong on this)

Thanks for the spotlight, I love it.
I have no idea what this movie will really be like, but much like Transformers, I'm glad someone has given us a chance to see something like this on the big screen.

To this day I am still angry at Sunbow for making Cobra Commander into a giant snake. Like 10 times angrier than Optimus dying made me.

My antivirus goes nuts when I try to access that site.. I guess I'll have to check it out later...
A buddy of mine saw it the other night and told me it was nothing special.. IMO the cast is sort of lackluster with the exeption of baroness..oOOO mama!!

I wish they would have followed the cartoon look for Cobra Commander a little more. I know they are trying to ground it in some reality, but a hooded Cobra Commander could have been done.
I am unsure about this movie. My wife and I both agree that the preview made it look rather stupid. But then I have read some fairly positive comments online from people who have seen it. Having accepted I need to check my brain at the door (ROTF was like that too), I want to see it. Now if I can convince my wife...

I hope it does. From what ive seen so far from all the trailers and exclusive footage its going to a way better movie than ROTF. But then again thats not to hard to do. It looks like they've stayed very close to the source material and thats how it should be done. Still a little puzzled by some of the casting choices but for all we know they could capture the essence of their charcater so ill wait to see it to judge them. And beside they have Ray Park as Snake Eyes. Thats a win. And if theres a weather dominater then itll be the best freakin movie ever. I might actually pay to see GIJOE. COOOOOOOOOOOBRAAAAAAAAAALALALALALALA!!!!

The comments made when the change in CC's look started to get reported was that the people working on the film felt using the his hooded look would be too much like the look of a KKK hood. Regardless of the fact the color is wrong and the hood isn't pointed, but I can easily see the character moving closer to the traditional helmet in sequels.

With the common histories between the 2, it's always fun to contrast and compare stuff like this. That's all.

I'm glad someone else commented on this.
To Chuck - I think you'll find that this site has quite a few folks that collect both lines or at least played with both as a kid. Be careful not to unintentionally alienate people.
Now, as for the Joe movie - I agree with the author on several points - especially about having expectations that you could trip over. I hope, hope, hope that I'm wrong. I dud of a movie won't "rape my childhood" or any of that nonsense, but it will leave me feeling the way that ROTF and the first two Star Wars prequels did - like a great opportunity was lost.
