What you need to know: Revenge of the Fallen DVD Exclusives

Hello Seibertronians, News Crew Member Blurrz here. It's that time of year again. As we all know, unless you've been living in a cave, the Revenge of the Fallen film was released in theatres this summer, and that means it's subsequent DVD release is approaching. We now overlook the date, as the DVD release is set for this Tuesday, October 20.

Image

Now most of you are probably not anticipating the DVD or Blu-Ray versions of the film, but are more intrigued with what else you are getting with it! We're talking about DVD exclusives that each retailer carry, and it's been a hot topic the past month or so. After looking at what is available out there, I've decided to compile a list of exclusives, so you, me, and the common Transformers fan does not end up having 6 copies of the film.

Before we get going with the Exclusives, here is what most retailers are getting in terms of special editions.

Two-Disc Special Edition DVD & Blu-ray:
Image

The TRANSFORMERS: Revenge of the Fallen two-disc Special Edition DVD is presented in widescreen enhanced for 16:9 televisions with Dolby Digital English 5.1 Surround, French 5.1 Surround and Spanish 5.1 Surround with English, French and Spanish subtitles. The Blu-ray will be presented in 1080p high definition with English 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio, French 5.1 Dolby Digital and Spanish 5.1 Dolby Digital with English, English SDH, French, Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese subtitles. The disc breakdown is as follows:

Disc 1:

-- Feature Film
-- Commentary by Michael Bay, Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman

Disc 2:

-- The Human Factor: Exacting Revenge of the Fallen--This multi-chapter
documentary chronicles the entire creation of the film and includes
interviews with the cast and crew:
-- Seeds of Vengeance - Development and Design - After the overwhelming
success of 2007's Transformers, how do the filmmakers top
themselves for the sequel?
-- Domestic Destruction - Production: United States - Michael Bay
believes in going big: Big action and big explosions. Cast and
crew are pushed to the limit as they traverse the U.S. from New
Mexico to Pennsylvania.
-- Joint Operations - Production: Military - No other filmmaker in the
world enjoys the kind of military access and cooperation Michael Bay
has. Here we see just how efficient our armed forces are and the awe
and respect shown by the cast.
-- Wonders of the World - Production: Middle East - You can't
really reproduce Egypt anywhere but Egypt so off we go to Giza and
Luxor.
-- Start Making Sense - Editing - In order to turn over the massive
amount of film as quickly as possible to VFX, four editors work
tirelessly in a unique tag-team approach to shape the film.
-- Under the Gun - Visual Effects - Revenge of the Fallen features the
most complicated VFX in film history. So complicated in fact that
the filmmakers were unsure they would make the deadline. The
DEVASTATOR VFX alone required 83% of ILM's total render farm
capacity.
-- Running the Gauntlet - Post-Production and Release - Working seven
days a week, Michael Bay and company usher the film through sound
design, Digital Intermediate color-timing and a globe-trotting
whirlwind of premieres.
-- A Day with Bay: Tokyo--An intimate and fun all-access journey with
Michael Bay as he travels to Tokyo, Japan for the world premiere of the
biggest film of the year.
-- 25 Years of TRANSFORMERS--Access an all-new featurette celebrating a
monumental milestone for one of Hasbro's most successful and
popular franchises.
-- NEST: Transformer Data-Hub--Explore conceptual artwork created by the
production for 12 of the most popular AUTOBOTS and DECEPTICONS from the
film.
-- Deconstructing Visual Bayhem with Commentary by Pre-Vis Supervisor Steve
Yamamoto-- A series of multi-angle pre-visualization sequences allowing
viewers to learn how some of the film's most spectacular scenes
were created with an introduction by Michael Bay.
-- Extended Scenes

-- Music Video: Linkin Park's "New Divide"

Blu-Ray Edition
-- The ALLSPARK Experiment--Viewers get their chance to unleash the power
of the recently recovered ALLSPARK shard on Earth vehicles. Begin by
selecting and customizing a vehicle with a selection of parts and
accessories. Then apply the ALLSPARK to this creation and watch what
happens. Applying the ALLSPARK to certain custom combinations enables
four new robot characters with special powers. If viewers discover all
four, they unlock a fifth vehicle, which reveals a top secret message
about the future of the TRANSFORMERS movie franchise.
-- NEST: Transformer Data-Hub--A database of some of the TRANSFORMERS
characters that appear in the new film, offering users access to each
robot's confidential file including:
-- Innovative 3D spin galleries of each robot
-- A timeline for each TRANSFORMERS character charting its origins,
back story and design evolution from toys to animated series to
comics and finally feature films
-- Giant Effing Movie - A very personal look at the making of the movie.

-- The Matrix of Marketing--An archive of the film's promotional media
including trailers, posters and television spots.

Now it's exclusive time, we start off with what's available in the United States, focusing on their main retailers.

Target
Image
Target's exclusive is a transforming Bumblebee disc case, similar to the Optimus Prime transforming case that came with the 2007 Movie disc. It comes with both the Blu-ray and DVD versions.
You can order each in the links below.
Blu-Ray
DVD

Best Buy
Image
Best Buy's Exclusive is as seen in the picture above. You can check out it out on their website here.

Wal-Mart
Image
Wal-Mart obtained the official rights for the IMAX version of Revenge of the Fallen, and that's what you're going to get if you order it off of them. You can check it out at their online site for the Blu-Ray and the DVD version.

Fye
Image
Fye's exclusive is the Steelbook, and it comes with the normal DVD version. You can check that out on their website here.

That's all we have for the exclusives within in the United States. If you have anything that you think you'd like to add, click 'Discuss This Topic' on the top of this news post and reply!

When it comes to Canada, everything is much of the same. Thanks to dak of Cybertron.ca for accumulating this list. Of most importance is Future Shop's exclusive Blu-Ray Steelbook, as depending on your point of view, it is superior to Fye's exclusive and it is not available for shipping to the States. For what else is available in Canada, you can check it out below.

Future Shop
Blu-Ray - $27.99 Plus Steel Case (Price 3 Days Only)
DVD - $18.99 (Price 3 Days Only)
DVD (2 Disc) - 28.99
2 Movie Collection (DVD) - $29.99

Best Buy
Blu-Ray - $27.99 Plus The Fallen T-shirt (Price 3 Days Only)
DVD - $18.99 (Price 3 Days Only)
DVD (2 Disc) - $26.99
2 Movie Collection (DVD) - $32.99

Zellers
DVD - $13.49 Plus $10 toy Coupon (Price Tuesday Only After Trade and Save)

Wal-Mart
Blu-ray - $29.83 (Price 3 Days Only)
DVD - $18.47 (Price 3 Days Only)

HMV
Blu-ray - $36.99
DVD - $26.99
DVD 2 Disc - $29.99
2 Movie Collection (Blu-ray) - $62.99 (available 03/11/2009)
2 Movie Collection (DVD) - $34.99

Toys "R" Us
DVD - $19.97 (Price 3 Days Only)

You're probably wondering, where are the Toys? The 2007 Movie exclusives had just that, exclusive Robot Heroes, and Beat Buy's exclusive Premium Ratchet and Megatron. Unfortunately North America and most of the world won't be receiving any exclusive figures with their DVDs, however there's one place.....

.....Takara Territory, Japan, has just about everything when it comes to exclusive toys and the Revenge of the Fallen DVD release. If you don't reside in Japan, you aren't exactly left out, however you might be paying the price of 10 Blu-Ray sets just to get a hold on some of these.

Lawson
The 2007 Movie exclusive figure for Lawson was a Premium version of Blackout. This time around it`s Desert Versions of Skid and Mudflap.
Image
You can order it off our valued sponsor BigBadToyStore at a hefty price.

Tsutaya Japan
ImageImage
Tsutaya's exclusive aren't as expensive as the rest. They are small, and by that we mean a Clear and Black version of Legends Bumblebee. You can check that out at Tsutaya's official site here.

Amazon Japan
Image
Amazon Japan's exclusive is the most expensive one out there. They've re-deco'd Leader Optimus Prime into a Black version, something we only usually get to see with Lucky Draws. You can check it out at Amazon Japan, and if you have no knowledge in the Japanese language, our sponsor BigBadToyStore can help you with it.

That's about it. Don't forget the release date on October 20. Keep the budget low and make sure you don't end up with 6 different copies of the film!

I wonder if there is a 2 disc DVD version of the Walmart exclusive with the Imax footage. I would probably pick that up.

Two homes = two DVDs. I'll probably get the Wal-Mart IMAX version and the normal 2-disc version.

Wow, I thought the Best Buy BluRay exclusive w/ the head statue would be a lot more than that, $45 is pretty good, esp. w/ the $50 gift card to Sideshow Collectibles! I might bite on that, even tho I don't have a BluRay player. That sculpt looks awesome.

Thanks *so much* for compiling this list for us, Blurrz.

I'm still considering whether I should buy this, as I didn't even see it in theaters, but this list will definitely help me out. I always have to do the research, both online and in newspaper inserts, as to what retailer incentives/promotions are available, and every time I'm afraid I'll miss or forget one. I wish fansites for other properties would do this for DVD releases.

Thanks a million.

"That's about it. Don't forget the release date on October 20. Keep the budget low and make sure you don't end up with 6 different copies of the film!" --- Hahaha... try telling that to Ryan. :P

thx for making this list Blurrz. I'm gonna go for the wally BR -although I don't like that stripe on top "TWO DISC BIG SCREEN EDITION" -looks tacky. I do like the cybertronian writing though in the background, since I'm not getting the steelbook. If I couldn't get the wally I'd have to say the next best exclusives are the steelbook BR (FYE sucks for not getting it/Future Shop sux for not shipping to US) and Target's tf BB case.

If I'm not workin Mon. evening I'll go to that release event at Bestbuy. Few miles down the road from me. See what they're givin out and maybe take some pics if it isn't lame. (although i must admit i've seen BB 3+ times now :-P )

oh ya Devastron, I think wally will have a 2 disc DVD of ROTF Imax. Don't see why they wouldn't

Has anyone seen any kind of store promotions/incentives/exclusives/sale prices for the Complete Series Matrix set?

With this coming out on the same day as RotF, I was expecting the stores to advertise this set alongside it. But I've seen nothing at all about it, not even the smallest blurb or mention.

I thought at least Best Buy would feature it in their Sunday ad, sort of an "Also Available! Buy this, too!" sort of thing.

Too bad none of the versions had Soundwaves voice the way it was ment to be. If you look on YouTube a couple of people did a pretty good job on making it sound the way it should be :APPLAUSE:

I have not. I would like to know this too. If I get out of work early enough tomorrow, I'll stop by that West HWD Bestbuy that's having the promotion. Bad part is, they'll probably be outta goodies by the time i get there. Sorry -probably won't have my camera, but I've posted BB statue/car pix at least 3 times here anyway.

Best Buy looks like it has the Matrix Of Leadership set for $129.95.

I was hoping for cheaper, and I can't find any info at Target.com, but I'll be checking things out tomorrow for sure.

I'm planning on getting the transforming case version to go with my transforming Prime case from the first movie.

But, my question is, is the Imax version worth shelling out an extra $15?

The FYE Steelbook DVD is the two-disk DVD or the 1 disk DVD? The picture seems to contradict the writing...

Man, why can't the steelbook DVD be in Canada?

goin right now to wally to grab the BR -hope there's a lot left. I'm going to hazard a guess that the 2D dvd at Walmart will have Imax too. For the american steelbook dvd at FYE I believe it'll be 2 disc.

Went to the promo thing at WEHO Best buy. Was kinda lame, not many giveaways -just small tattoos, balloons, flyers and posters & KROQ keychains. I was playing ROTF game on the outside display and they kicked me off the machine right when it was my turn -only got to play for a minute --and this was with a good 20 min. till the promo event ended. Bastards. Thanks -& they expect me to buy the movie there? more later
