BIG NEWS - Transformers opens July 3rd, 2007

Michael Bay mentioned it as a possibility and now it's happening:

Dreamworks/Paramount has decided to bump up the release of Transformers from 7/4/07 to 7/3/07 and may even allow theaters to run night showings on 7/2/07.

This is in response to Disney's marketing scheme with Pirates 3, where they released it early and allowed showings starting at 8pm the night before.

This is not a rumor or speculation, this is a fact. While it may not show up in ads yet, I guarantee you will be able to sit in theaters on Tuesday, July 3rd and watch Transformers (and maybe even Monday night).

Watch for some kind of official word soon.

This is sweeeeeet!! :D

How do you know, may I ask?

I have several friends who work pretty high up in the movie theater business (in different chains, actually), and they help book the films onto the various screens. They also know that I am an insane TF fan, so whenever TF news comes down the pipe, they let me know. It's also how I have had the one-sheets of all the TF posters for so long.

Anyhoo, with a summer as crowded as this one, it's crucial that the theaters know in advance exactly what films to book, how many prints of each film they will be receiving, and (most importantly in this case), when they will be showing the prints.

Think about it. If a movie is opening a day or two early, that means that some OTHER movie will be running a day or two less. The theaters have to know.

This is a done deal and the communication is going out to theaters now. Just you wait for confirmation.

I have absolutely no proof. There's no hard evidence except what I have heard from my friends. And while I trust 100% that this is a fact, I would be skeptical if I were you, too.

Just keep me in mind when someone officially posts this as news.

Sorry to be skeptical, but "He tell me" has never made me very feel very confident in the information provided. It's quite possible that what you say IS the truth, but I'll just wait until it's confirmed through official sources. Congrats on the one-sheets though, pretty cool having buddies in the theater biz....

How does this screw up your plans? Because even if (and that's the keyword here IF) it's released on July 3 you could still see it on July 4th. It's also possiable that this
could be a regional thing where Paramount releases it on July
3 to certain markets (most likely LA, New York, and maybe Chiago) to get the word of mouth started for it.

Problem is that thias is one of those movies I wanna see first day and I know some people who will see it first day and blab it to me. And if it's a regional thing, I'm from
NYC.
The problem is that I mainly work nights, so when this gets released on July 3, I'll be working. I just hope they do a midnight start thing like they did with Spiderman 3 and Independence day. If they do that, I'm good for it!

I'll believe it when I see it.

as posted on Michael Bay's blog wrote:I would also like fans opinion on opening on July 3rd instead of the 4th. The studio kind of sort of is thinking about which might mean "no". If you spread the word on the Net - everywhere - they might listen. The 3rd everyone is off from work, I say "what the ****" play the movie - "give'em giant **** robots early"!!!

You'll have to scroll down a little but it's there under the "Notes from Bay" posted on 05/18/07 06:07 AM.

Doesn't matter to me either way I get to see it on June 28th. The perks of working for one of the preview sponsors :-P

I just wanted to add that I watched Attack of the Showtoday and they said the same thing, in their "The Feed" segment.

I don't have any confirmation, but I did see it.

This showing the movie early before a definite scheduled release kinda a annoys me.
Here's why:
1) I think it takes away from the excitement of opening night.
This seems like it's going to be a kinda hit or miss thing, some theatres may do it while some won't
2) I work a job where I don't have a definite scheduls, so in order to be off to see the movie I have to request that particular night off. If there is no definite release schedule it makes it difficult to request specific time off.
3) Seeing the movie 1 or 2 days earlier isn't a big deal to me. I mean the movie will have come and gone before we know it. I would just like a definite national release date, so that I know I'm one of the first to see it, as I plan to attend the first midnight showing available.
I guess I'm kind of ranting but doesn't anyone else feel this way? I mean if random theatres started showing the movie this friday, wouldn't that just take away alot of the excitement?
So no, I do not like the idea of an early release, I would be happy to just wait and see it at the first showing on July 4th as originally planned.

While I agree about the anticipation and all, an earlier release in this case is probably going to mean a bigger initial haul at the box office, which is probably the main reason this is going down.

Maybe the brits can thank Harry potter for that :?

Finally, you people believe me! :D

So everyone knows, Dreamworks is officially weighing the "viability" of having 10pm shows on July 2nd. I don't know how you determine viability on something like that, but there you go.

Oh, and I would see D'Works moving up Transformers as a way to gain more revenue before Harry Potter hits theaters the next week. After all, the Harry Potter movie was just moved up a day or two, taking away from Transformers business earlier.

Guys, I need some advice. My girlfriend is way more stoked about the movie than me, which is funny cuz she gives me a hard time about my collecting sometimes. :P

Anyway, she wants to get advance tickets to see it on opening night. We live in Canada. Do you guys anticipate a lineup of Star Wars proportions? Or about par with any other summer blockbuster? I wanna see it, but not to the point of lining up for 8 hours, unless there's a free figure or something in the deal...

So what do you think?
