Protoforms and alternative modes

Hey guys,
I really hated the fact they scrapped the Ark from the movies continuity and made the Transformers so powerful to travel from Cybertron to Earth but... I was thinking about it last day...
Maybe, once they assume an ALTERNATIVE MODE, they can't retain previous alternative modes they once assumed anymore. This means Autobots and Decepticons can't transform into space travelling meteors anymore, they just can change their earthling alternative modes with other earthling alternative modes, and that's it. They can't store so many transformation datas in their memory.
So they are basically as much TRAPPED on Earth as the G1 Transformers (except for the space bridges technology). The only point going against my theory is Starscream flying in the space (?) at the very end of the first movie, after the credits.

Don't forget Megatron flying into space in ROTF.

YEAH, he was a
Cybertronian jet. So he can do that very easily. I mean, he didn't drop his Cybertronian form in order to assume an earthling one.
My point is that when they "memorize" a new form, they "forget" the previous ones... UNTIL they don't have a model to "scan" and thus "imitate".
Since Transformers on Earth have no Cybertronian models to "copy" anymore, they can't travel in space like they used to do.

nooooooooooo, the transformers were in PROTOFORM state when traveling through space with the exception of Megs and Starscream. Remember in the first one when they all landed FROM SPACE in protoform state? They can shed their earth bound bodies and return to space.

I agree with this post. Remember after Optimus died and NEST was shut down, Ratchet mentions to Ironhide that the Autobots should leave Earth? I think he meant back into their protoforms and leave, in a way how Ravage stole the Allspark shard and went back into space and then to the cargo ship at the Laurentian Abyss to meet up with the Constructicons afterwards to revive Megatron.

I think they also must have a ship close to Earth for long distance travel. The comet modes are just for atmospheric entry.

Just rewatched TR2, and noticed:
Megatron is a kind of Triplechanger here. He can revert to his Cybertronian jet mode, despite his "new" alternative mode is the futuristic tank. So he can transform into two alternative modes at will.

I think Megatron is as much as a Triplechanger as Tracks from the G1 cartoon is. His vehicle mode would just have its wings pop out and fly. Although in the ROTF comic, Megatron transforms into his jet mode from the first movie, as well as his new tank form.
