An MTV Movies exclusive interview with Hasbro CEO Brian Goldner sheds some light on the possible background of Transfomers 3.
"You’re going to see that great core mythology brought to the fore, and Michael is hard at work at making this a reality and we’re very excited about it,"
"What we’re really doing is getting back to some of the core character development and storytelling. And I think there’s some elements of the core story that the filmmakers, Michael in particular wanted to tell,"
There are more goodies over at MTV Movies Blog, as you can check out the entire interview there.

I'm excited about this. Yeah, ROTF had maybe too many characters, but I like the idea of flashbacks. I just hope he gets this one out of the gutter and knocks it out of the park.
Yours truly,

What would 'core mythology' refer to here?

All I can say is, they better make this movie good. And it's sad that it's taking 3 moives to, maybe getting right.
And ROTF really wasn't overpopulated. Bay just didn't give enough screen time to the TransFormers. It was all about jokes...that aren't funny. But if Hasbro really is having a say in this movie, then maybe we'll see if TF3 will be good. But really, ROTF could have been much better if it was a TransFormers movie.
I'm a writer so yes, I know you need humans in the film, I agree. But if it's called TransFormers, you need it to be more about TransFormers. And not having scenes that go nowhere. You see, since the TransFormers are already very much like humans, they talk, show emtion, plan, fight, etc... You can get away with a movie like TransFormers with out too many human scenes.

This is great! And Im hoping that Transformers 3 will be considered one of the great movies of the decade, like I hoped the first 2 would. When I first saw ROTF I said to myself "there is no way any one can complain about this movie!" But when I got home and checked the reviews, I was pissed. But I do have to admit, I see where some of these people are coming from, but the good just out weighs the bad in ROTF for me. So, I hope that Transformers 3 will appeal to the critics and the general "know it all" movie goers.

Just so long as the elements of the core mythology actually encompasses the entire mythos as it claims, I'm happy.
I'd be very happy to see more diverse homages. Rampantly homaging G1 gets old for this RiD/UT fan.
So that might stipulate Mini-cons and Haiku.

I hope this is true, part 1 was good but part 2 was lacking, hopefully 3 will be good enough to fill the lack and be even better than part one(and I LOVED part one).
But the overuse of the word "core" seems a bit.....disturbing, seems like they are just using it to make it sound "deep."

"You’re going to see that great core mythology brought to the fore, and Michael is hard at work at making this a reality and we’re very excited about it,"
Lies.
"What we’re really doing is getting back to some of the core character development and storytelling. And I think there’s some elements of the core story that the filmmakers, Michael in particular wanted to tell,"
More lies.

My thoughts exactly. The core mythology of the Transformers brand or the core mythology as created by the movieverse? It's really hard to determine much from these statements.

ROTF was just awesome. If this one is better it's because it's without those two canon destroying writers. I am glad they are gone.

I agree 100% Even though I loved ROTF, I hated those writers to ass!

Thank God that there is someone out there that agrees with me. Yeah there were to many bad joke (one of them being wheelie) and to much human stuff, but it was NOT a bad movie.

Yeah, I didnt mind the jokes, I actually liked them. I liked the Twins. Wheelie, got on my nerves with the whole humping leg thing and shouting "bitch" every second when he was first introduced, but the only thing that got me mad in ROTF was Simmon's ass and the dogs f*king eachother, other than those 2 one second scenes, I loved ROTF. Its in a 3 way tie with my favorite movie of all time.

Hmmm, Core Mythology, huh?
Whatever that means to them is one thing we will never really know. But, I do know what it isn't. It isn't ROTF. If it was, they wouldn't need to go back to it, would they?
Now, I'm not a fancy, high-class hollywood executive or anything like that, but isn't this something they should have addressed in, I don't know, THE FIRST 5 HOURS OF FEATURE FILM?
Granted, I watch the hell out of both movies... thanks to rifftrax. I wish I could watch them because they were good movies and not because they are easy to laugh at... At, not with.
After dozens of viewings of both, I can say with a clear conscious that I have absolutely no idea what any of the characters motivations are, nor why they interact with each other the way they do. I've been a human my whole life and can't understand the social gymnastics performed on screen by the humans in these films.
Transformers 3: Death of an Intellectual Property will follow the same pattern as the first two films, regardless of any nonsense spewed before hand by its financiers. Isn't this nearly the same thing they said before ROTF came out?
If anything, Bay should just keep doing the same crap he has done this far and keep any established cannon from the cartoons and comics out of it.
To paraphrase the ROTF Rifftrax at the moment of primes death:
Mike: Wow, his death had more emotional resonance in the animated version.
Bill: That's not a sentence you hear very often.

honostly i thought rotf was ok but
it had major falws with the characters
i mean megatron would not bow down to anyone an why the fallen?
and was prime able to beat the crap out of megatron, starscream and grindor?
that just didnt make sense to me cause the first movie megatron and starscream seemed to be way better fighters then prime
but i hope they do focus more on the cybertronians on this movie
and i hope they make the decepticons win cause it would get boring if the autobots win again

Bay movies and character development are things one does not often see mixed together. Also, I hope we do see more TRANSFORMERS and lesser humans....we don't need the first half of Armada retold.

Poor Man... deluding himself like that.
What happened to Bay saying he's learned not to listen to fans.
You're already two movies in. It's too late to try to prod Bay to be better. Just let him run the movieverse (deeper) into the ground and we can move on with new franchises.

Wow, the people whose finances depend on people going to see the movie say it'll be good... that means, I should like totally believe them.
Michael Bay doesn't care about this stuff. All he cares about is making lots of money by catering to the lowest common denominator. He doesn't understand the characters at all, and thinks that as long as you have explosions, wavy camera angles, and the sort of sexual humor that middle school students think up, then people will watch his movie.
The sad thing is--the sales receipts show that he was right.

So, Michael Bay IS smart...just not in the way you think as smart.

Hi, I'm new to the forum. So here's my virgin post.
I loved the first two movies, but honestly I was bugged by all the gimmicks in ROTF. There was so much G1 referencing going on even I got lost in alle the matrixes, solar harvester, original TF's and whatnot... I'd like to see where Bay is going with this.
I'm not counting on depth storywise. I don't like Transformers for it's depth.

Just keep Leo out of it AND bring back Anthony Anderson.
Also, lets focus on the cool bots this time - Ratchet, Sideswipe, Jolt and Arcee.
No more crap head designs like the Twins.
Mainly though, just get rid of Leo!!!!

The general audience does love stupidity. Even though I dont think ROTF was stupid at all. How else do you think that vid about that lady sitting on a toilet got so many views?
