World Premiere of Transformers Movie To Be Held in Italy

The Hollywood Reporter has announced that the world premiere of the Michael Bay movie Transformers, will see the first flicker on the silver screen on the island of Sicily in Italy, at the Taormina Film Awards Festival, which will be held between the 16th and 22nd of June 2007.
The premiere screening itself will be held on June 21st. Michael Bay, several cast members and executives from distributor Paramount Pictures are said to arrive by helicopter in an elaborate ceremony before the June 21st screening. The theater premiere of the movie is set world wide for a july 4th release.
"We think the decision to premiere 'Transformers' in Taormina shows a renewed interest in the festival, and it illustrates the strong ties between this Mediterranean festival and American cinema"

I will be thoroughly disappointed if the helicopter they arrive in isn't an MH-53.

Guess I won't be covering the world premiere for the site
Here's hoping that there's a Hollywood premiere that I'll be able to attend to take pictures of for all of you.

Oh sure, the Transformers come over here, destroy our towns and homes, kill our citizens, and cost us a fortune (I don't even think my insurance covers destructive sentient alien life forms) and where do they have the Transformers World Premiere? Italy, that's right, the country that brought us GiG Transformers.

But the G1 crowd would be squealing incoherently anyway. And it's a LOT more feasible than the helicopter, given security nowadays.

Makes sense, that gives it a whole week to reverberate around the world in news stories before it is released in Australia (and other countries I am sure) on the 28th of June. Also gives them plenty of time to recover from the afterparty to be at the American Premiere Screening.

See its not being sent to Italy just for the hell of it. Its an actual Film Festival. Like most most movies, even the Blockbusters they premier officially at a Festival such as Cannes or the lesser known ones for a select Audience (press etc) and then it goes to the big glitzy Hollywood Premier etc.

Oh yeah... that makes complete sense... Japan Created it, while us American's Blew it up and made it part of Pop Culture.... and it get's a premiere in Italy... somewhere that has no real ties to Transformers.

Research GiG and you'll see that Italy does have ties to the original series, although for whatever reason GiG seems to get less respect than the American or Japanese counterparts.
