Can DOTM outgross ROTF?

Since ROTF was a huge success in the box office, but was critically panned by critics, a few moviegoers, a certain amount of fans alike, I had been wondering something: Can Dark of the Moon outgross Revenge of the Fallen?

I hope so. And I also hope that every one doesn't bash this like they did the first 2.

Good luck with that one.
Trust me dude, as much as we movie fans don't want that, the bashing will most likely be worse than the first two. As long as the movieverse exists, there will be Bay-haters. The bashing will stop once the toyline is axed in 2012 and all of them are sold and off the shelves.

I think it's possible, but there was so much negative feedback about ROTF it could be difficult.

I hope that it does well, but I have a feeling that it will not eclipse the 2nd movie. I guess we will find out.

No.

There's just too many other big name movies coming out next year. Combine that with people tightening their belts, they're going to be more selective about what they choose to watch.

I agree with that. When the 2nd movie came out, the "new" hadn't yet worn off. At this point, people are becoming accustomed to the franchise again, so the wow factor isn't there as much. The 07 movie left somethings for people to hope for, and then when RoTF came out it was a huge deal. I don't think there is going to be a 3-peat. I do hope DoTM is good though, and I will very likely watch it on opening day.

And I know this is hard for some people to accept, but there some non-fans (aka the majority of the movie going public) that loved the first one but were disappointed by the second, they're not going to rush out and see the third one with that taste in their mouth.

That being said, IF it's any good, and actually gets good reviews (because we do unfortunately live in a world where a lot of people actually value the opinions of some hob-nosed "critic") then they might be swayed to going to see it.

But realistically, even though I liked RotF, it wasn't as good as the first and a lot of people left the theatre's disappointed after RotF.

Based on the aftermath of RoTF combined with stiff competition next summer, TF3 won't be as big at the opening box office, but IF it's a lot better than RoTF (which won't be hard to do) then maybe it'll pull in money in its subsequent weeks/months, so it may match RoTF's 831 million worldwide.

I think it can still do fairly well as long as they throw advertisement in our faces enough. But with movies like Disney Pixar's Cars II, I think that after all the toilet humor of TF2 parents would rather take their kids to a "family oriented" movie, even if their kids just bought the whole damn TF3 collection.
I don't know of any other movies coming out in the summer, so I'm not sure exactly what TF3 is up against.

I'd prefer it to tank and be a great cult movie for the next 20 years than make ROTF type cash with a ROTF type movie. That may harm the movie franchise, or force a reboot, but its time for a classic.

What Rodimus said. It has to way better than the last one. But even if it is, you also have to factor in that DOTM comes out on July 1st. Green Lantern comes out on June 17th. Captain America is coming out on July 22nd. Any one of those movies alone would steal some of the thunder from DOTM and it's stuck between the both of them. Is it really any wonder why DOTM is also going to be in 3D? They need to make that extra money.

I don't think the majority was disappointed with RotF, it's the small percentage that won't shut up about it. It's a squeaky wheel thing really, most enjoyed it and left it at that.

It was about 50/50, but that's neither here nor there. Everyone could have loved ROTF but that doesn't matter this time around. The last Transformers movie didn't have any competition directly before it or after it. The OP wanted to know if part 3 will out gross ROTF. It depends on how good or how bad Green Lantern and Captain America turn out to be.

I also forgot. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 and Cowboys and Aliens come out after DOTM. So that's four movies in the same genre that DOTM has to compete with.
