Has anybody noticed that our opinions of this movie have got us split down the middle just as bad as the denizens of Cybertron we all know and love? Instead of Autobots and Decepticons, we've got people who think this movie will rock and people who think this movie will suck. We're practically reenacting the Great War right here on this board!
If I could make a poll of this, I would. Who thinks this movie will rock? Who thinks this movie will suck? Slag, I'd like to see people cast their votes on this one.

Me? Suck. I've not seen much to the contrary, despite the choice CGI scenes replayed over and over in trailers.
This movie is to me as a (ditched) attempt at a Doctor Who movie was a few years ago.
Example:

I saw this once as a CGI video file.
A perfectly ominous enough Dalek, but "reimagined" for what was to be in a big-budget, American-made movie.
Look familiar? (Another CGI shard-bot, if you will, pissing on the character of the source material).
Then I saw Scorponok, Megatron and Starscream for the Transformers movie... only this movie IS being made.
Sorry. No rudeness intended, this movie is not what I wanted.

It'll be a financial success, but most likely a travesty for cinema itself. That said, it's an action film, not a work of art. As a simple, straight forward, mindless, explosion-filled action movie, it'll do just fine.

I'm keeping an open mind on the movie. What I'm hearing makes me think it'll be, at the very least, a fun ride. It may not be art, but let's face it, neither was Generation 1, no matter our sentimental attachments.
No matter what, though, I want it to be a financial success. Because, let's face it... if Transformers wound up being the top grossing film of the year, we'll be seeing a LOT more stuff. And things like reissues, Alternators and lines like Classics, made to appeal to collectors and the old school audience the film will likely bring in, would make a LOT of sense.
And, if nothing else, I've really enjoyed seeing parents in stores, introducing their kids to Transformers and talking about the stuff THEY grew up with. Plus, they're downright funny sometimes... like the dad whose kid didn't want the voice changer helmet, and the dad's response was, "Okay, I'll get it for ME then."

If I see transforming robots that have some personality, I am sold. I don't expect much, for $8.
And coming from a g1 fan with 2500-3000$ worth of toys (including all this new movie crap), might mean somethin. Perhaps that it doesnt take much to please me, sorta liket he idea of robots transforming, when I was a kid (g1).
edit: movie alternator toys would probably make me the happiest boy ever.
