MechTech and the DOTM Movie question...

How prominently do you think the MechTech concept will be featured in the DOTM movie? Is it a new development that they will spend a minute explaining the origin and reason for, and then how just about every TF now has them, or do you think it will just be the case where they show some robots using the weapons (like 'bee from the trailer) without any explanation?

How closely do you think the toy's MechTech weapons will resemble their movie selves?

Discuss! :-B

I'm pretty sure Wheeljack...I mean Que, along with Ratchet's help; develops the weapons.

Or maybe it appears because of the wreckers? We don't know their origins yet and they look like they are in MechTech mode all the time.

It's funny though, if you read DOTM Leader Voyager Ironhide's bio, it sounds like he's responsible for the weapons:

"Ironhide saved the best of the MechTech weapons for himself. He spent weeks tuning and tweaking the weapon he'd built..."

Sounds like the Autobot "Weapons Specialist" might have had a hand in their creation, so how did the 'cons get ahold of them?

Yeah, thats a question I'm wondering if they will answer there or not? Good question, I had a similar one earlier but wasn't around a computer.

If I had to guess, it would probably be Que, Ironhide and Ratchet coming up with the technology in the middle of the movie when the Decepticon invasion gets heated up.

I do remember reading a spoiler somewhere that they obtained either a cache of weapons or technology from Sentinel Prime when they revived him at The Ark.

As for how much they'll feature in the film, I'd say, a lot.

I have to wonder though... Because it seems pretty convienent to me if the weapons will have become widespread between both factions.

Also, given that we have several versions of MechTech Prime (Standard US, Takara w/ Trailer, Fireburst, Ultimate) that all feature (AFAIK) a different MechTech weapon, which one will be movie accurate? Same goes for Bumblebee!

Also, every picture we've seen of Megatron is absent the Voyager toy's arm cannon - he's been seen either empty handed or armed with a "shotgun"-like weapon.

This really leads me to believe that MechTech is about 85% toy gimmick, maybe 15% movie-accurate... (just a shot in the dark, really, but hopefully you understand what I mean.)

You have a point there. The trailers and teasers all centered so much on Bee's stealth mode and Optimus in his Jetwing backpack that I didn't really notice the lack of upgrades among the Decepticons, or the other Autobots, for that matter. So far, we only know for sure that Optimus's Jetwing package [used in Takara's exclusive DOTM leader class toy] will be film-accurate. Everything else is a guess at this point.

But you never know. Maybe they will be featured with upgrades later in the movie.

BTW, I didn't mean that the mechtech weapons in the toys will necessarily be featured in the movie, just that the weapons upgrades in either the form of stealth mode or additional high-powered weapons [which probably won't even be called mechtech] will be shown.

Fair enough! It's not like they called "automorph" anything in the first movie either, right?

For what it's worth, the MechTech weapons really have grown on me and I hope that they are at least somewhat shown in the movie, particularily Megatron's arm-mounted fusion cannon!

One question I have: has anyone seen pictures of Ultimate OP's MechTech weapon? I really like the Voyager mold's Ion Blaster, and would like to see if the Ultimate scale toy has done it better or not. Thanks!

I don't think he has an actual weapon, just the trailer.

As far as I know, Mechtech is just a toy-gimmick and won't be shown in the movie. We already have seen Megatron with a different weapon to his toy and I'm pretty sure Bumblebee has been seen with his old movie gun.

Furthermore, they wern't in the comics, if that measn anything to anybody.
