Transformers DOTM Early and Midnight Screening Totals

The box offices numbers are in for the 9:00 PM and midnight Transformers: Dark of the Moon screenings! Last night early screenings opened at 9:00 PM at 2700 select 3D and IMAX 3D theaters bringing in $5.5 million. The midnight screenings, which added between 300 and 500 2D scenes, pulled in an additional $8 million for a total of $13.5 million. That falls short of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen's $16.6 million midnight opening, but still impressive. Paramount is estimating the film will earn between $155 to $165 million through the holiday weekend.

The way I figured out that it's going to be lower is because people missed Megan Fox.
Perverts. TRANSFORMERS IS ABOUT THE ROBOTS, DIMWITS, NOT WOMEN!

THIS x2. The acting in this movie was way better than the first 2. You see what happens when you exterminate the one blight? Everything becomes better.

i asked a lot of people at my school why they would not see it and its because of fox. to me this movie had the perfect balance of humans and TFs. better than the first and ROTF combined.

Rosie is hotter than Megan.

I can easily imagine this movie will make more money than RotF. Hell, I've seen it two times allready (one more than RotF), and I don't really like Bayformers.

People at school said "did you know Megan Fox is out, I'm not watching DOTM because of that crap". PPFFT. People at school even said, "the old transformers is gay, new one is better 'cause of it's live-action". BULLCRAP! I can't force them change their minds, but hey, it's personal preference.

Box Office Mojo is reporting that Transformers Dark of the Moon has earned an estimated $97.5 million over the Independence Day weekend, which easily edges out Spider-Man 2's previous record for the holiday weekend of $88.2 million. It also surpassed Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides for the top-grossing weekend earner of 2011 to date. Since the early preview screenings opened in theaters last Tuesday evening the film has earned an estimated $181.1 million, which ranks as the ninth highest-grossing six-day launch ever.

Transformers Darkside Moon is also doing quite well in Hong Kong according to The Hollywood Reporter:

The third Transformers opened last Wednesday and took in HK$6 million ($771,042), making it the film with biggest non-holiday opening in the territory. But the actioner gained momentum on Friday,, a public holiday to commemorate the 1997 Hong Kong handover from the U.K. to China, and raked in over HK$10 million in more than 800 showings, to become the biggest single day grossing film of all time. The film then went on to gross more than HK$40 million over its first five-day weekend to set the biggest opening weekend record. The last Transformers installment grossed HK$22 million over its first five days in 2009.

If they did a 100% CG Transformers film, and had the G1 looks, with the same plot and story as '86's, WE MUST BEAT ONE OF THE TOP 5 $#!%'n RANKERS! ooh... got a little carried away there... 8)
BTW, we need Unicron, Galvatron, Hot Rod (and his alter-ego), Kup--- wait, the Bay crew is coming, :-$

I really liked DOTM! You have to give it to Michael Bay - he sure knows his way around an good action movie. To me it ticked every box - just about a perfect movie I hope it continues to dominate the box office.
I hope we don't have to wait too long for a 4th movie. I like the idea of Unicron resurecting Megs and Starcream etc. Could move towards 'master' tech too. I didn't like how Ironhide got the rough end of the pineapple, took me back to 86 and crying in the cinema is sooo less acceptable when you are a grown man!

I saw last weekend - part of the yawns, the other half does not close your eyes ... corn and crunches ... but the last 20 minutes - a masterpiece

With those types of numbers it would be hard to image that Paramount and Hasbro arent already looking for a writer and director to reboot the series.

Saw it twice through my online sources. Great film. I will for sure be buying the original DVD to add to my collection when it comes out. But ROTF was just better because there was more robot characters with more screentime. Yeah they cut out the dry humor from ROTF (which Im glad) but they still had many pointless human scenes which would have made no difference to the story if they had been deleted.

A few unecessary scenes and concepts were:

1. Sam's Job interviews

2. The break up scene between Sam and Carly where she jumps in the Benz and hands Sam a wet towel. (or some unknown object)

3. The Russian underground mafia gun scene and conspiricy involving Sputnik photos before the crash.

4. Having Simmons in a wheelchair for the last 30 minutes of the film. I may have missed something, but exactly how and when did he get injured ???

5. When Laserbeak threw the chinese guy out the building. Who was he anyway ??? Was he connected to Carly's boss ???

6. The Bill O'Riley show. I personally hate the guy. Keep politics out of the movie.

7. And does anybody have any clue how Simmons got rich in the first place ??? Did he write a book or become a star after helping save the world in ROTF ???

This should be the reboot:

Begin with the Autobots on Cybertron. They're under heavy fire from the Decepticons. They retreat to the Ark, and blast off from Cybertron. They originally planned to go to another part of the planet, but the Decepticons followed them, and blasted them. The Ark crashes on Earth. The Decepticons follow to make sure that the Autobots are dead, and are hit by an asteroid in the process. They crash as well.

When the Decepticons land on earth, a little kid (10 or 11)named Daniel Witwicky goes to see what happened. He discovers the Decepticon ship. As he is exploring, Starscream sneaks up behind him, and attempts to kill him. Before he can, Bumblebee tackles Starscream. He beats starscream down enough to be able to get out of the Nemesis with Daniel. Daniel then meets the Autobots.

Either something like that, or they should make a straight remake of the best episodes of G1.

The thing carly hands sam is the Rabbit's foot from the lucky bunny that she tore off, Simmon's was thrown out of his white convertable by hatchet or one of the other dreads in the highway chase, where he broke his leg. The chinese guy was working for the Decepticons but betrayed them to Sam. I don't know about the rest, but only seen it once so...

It was a stuffed rabbit's foot.

He got thrown out of the back of his car by a Dread.

He was somebody connected to NASA that was forced into working with the Decepticons.

He wrote a book about saving the world in ROTF.

Are you sure you watched DOTM? All of your questions were answered in the movie.

1. Somewhat agree

2. That was a rabbit's foot, that she tore off of the stuffed rabbit she gave to Sam for good luck at the beginning of the movie.

3. That scene played a key role in them discovering the overall plot regarding Sentinel and the pillars.

4. He got injured in the freeway chase scene involving the Dreads.

5. He was one of the Decepticons' human conspirators Laserbeak was dispatched to assassinate. He wasn't directly involved with Dylan, but he knew about the Decepticons' plans.

6. Somewhat agree, it was mainly to fill us in on what Simmons had been up to since the last movie.

7. Yes, he wrote a book about the Transformers on earth.
