DOTM DVD to be loaded with deleted scenes?

I posted this at TFW forums, so I thought I'd post it here too. :)

Transformers: Dark Of The Moon DVD Will Be Loaded With Deleted Scenes - CinemaBlend.com

Very few people leave a Transformers film wanting more footage. The average run-time for Michael Bay’s robo-carnage operas is 150 minutes. The idea that Bay could possibly have “deleted scenes” for a DVD release of his films is laughable, as the director seems to include everything but the kitchen sink on screen. Heck, he even recycles footage from his previous films. What could Bay possibly have left on the cutting room floor?

Well, lots, if Dark of the Moon leading man Shia LaBeouf is to be believed. The actor, who has filmed three Transformers films back-to-back, tells MTV News that the upcoming DVD release for the sequel will have boatloads of extra scenes, though we should expect to hear more improvised banter between Bay’s Oscar-caliber actors instead of additional scenes with battling ‘bots.

"Because we're 3-D, you're shooting digital all the time. The beauty for us is, let's say I'm doing a scene with [John] Malkovich or Frances [McDormand] or [Patrick] Dempsey or even Rosie [Huntington-Whiteley] -- we'd just riff. You've got hours and hours of all that ... where you're just riffing and ad libbing and trying to come up with lines," said LaBeouf.

Ah, the dreaded act of coming up with lines. Isn’t that what the screenplay is for? And did anyone walk away from Dark of the Moon thirsting for more of Ehren Kruger’s dialogue? No. You want more Autobot-on-Decepticon mayhem. Yet those digitally-enhanced action sequences cost serious bucks, and so it’s likely Bay put al of those in the finished product and left out things that help ground a sci-fi thriller. You know, like conversation, character development and plot twists. There’s no date set for a Dark of the Moon DVD, though if I had to guess, I’d say Paramount would have it in stores in time for the December holidays.

I'm hoping so, but for the lesser likely reasons - like any scenes with the Twins, or alternate ending, etc. all of which were likely never either filmed, rendered, or finished, with perhaps exception to the Twins scenes depending on how late they were cut (obviously after filming of the nest base introductions sequence and the sentinel killing spree scenes).

I would like it even more if there were, somehow, scenes to throw in with the first two films as well and release a huge collection like with LotR.

Wishful thinking. XP

That Burger King ad had footage of Optimus fighting Shockwave, which never ended up in the final film. It looked far too "polished" for that type of advertising (remember that NASA commercial with the low quality Optimus just standing there?), fingers crossed we get that scene as an extra.

Of course, there aren't likely to be many finished CGI scenes deleted, just by nature of how they're done. Most likely any axed CGI would just be a few seconds from a larger scene, like the few bits of Grindor from the Forest Fight in RotF.

I was thinking the same thing about that. Although, Burger King does have a lot of high-quality commercials with non-movie footage. Optimus fighting Shockwave has no place anyways, considering he's helpless by the time Optimus touches down. That little "You die!" moment just consists of Prime killing a blind, beaten Shockwave.

I'm doubting we'll get that much good deleted material, unless it's in the forms of storyboarding or pre-viz animation.

While it's certainly nothing out of the ordinary for a DVD to come with extended footage and deleted scenes a recent interview with the stars of Transformers DOTM at MTV News reveals the DVD release may by chock-full of them. With the film already boasting a two hour and forty minute run time it's understandable that some of the more "superfluous" scenes ended up on the cutting room floor. Check out the full article here: 'Transformers: Dark Of The Moon' Stars Tease Deleted Scenes

Admittedly the same commercial has movie-grade explosions and building wreckage.

Assuming the fight was part of the movie, perhaps in Chernobyl? Shockwave pops out of the Driller calling Optimus, and suddenly disappears. Seems like more was supposed to happen, like maybe Shockwave engaging Optimus for a bit before finally running off?

So will it be like a director's cut or just an outrageous number of deleted scenes?

I hope they are robot scenes. I dont care for any more of Patrick Dempsy and Jon Malkovich is repulsive.

Yeah that article is bang-on. With most CGI-laden movies, 99 times out of 100, you are not going to see any special effects in the deleted scenes. It's all just dialogue really. I would honestly prefer to see any scenes like that just re-inserted into the movie and not have to watch them separately.

The novel did have a fair bit of stuff which was not in the movie, (in regards to non-action scenes), so I would imagine we'd see some of that.

Yes,yes,yes,yes!
Maybe we'll see sentinel kill the twins like in the book
Maybe starscream survives
Maybe megatron and shockwave talk....
Maybe bumblebee dies
Maybe optimus acepts megatrons truce
Maybe a different ending
This movie was awesome

Don't hold your breath, with reassurances like this:

"Because we're 3-D, you're shooting digital all the time," LaBeouf told MTV News. I can almost guarantee there a no TFs in any of the deleted scenes. It'll be like movie 1's dvd deleted scenes, all useless crap that no one wanted to or cared to see.

I will bet everything I own on this being the case. With the astronomical cost of CGI you simply don't leave scenes like that out of the movie. If CGI was done, it goes in the movie.

It's not unheard of for scenes with CGI to be cut. Uncommon, but not unheard of.

Star Wars Ep. III had a completed deleted scene where General Grievous executes a Jedi, with a few dozen droids surrounding him. And there's a scene where Yoda goes to Dagobah, which is entirely CGI. Together, that's a little less than 2 minutes of heavy CGI footage.
Granted Star Wars isn't comparable to Bay's TF movies, but that's still a lot of cut CGI.

There will probably be a bare bones release. Then they will have an Autobot and Decepticon edition (With faction shaped case, or maybe one of those transforming cases) each with seperate scenes on it. Then there will be a special edition. Then there will be a directors cut. Then there will be a special edition directors cut. Then a special edition directors cut platinum edition. All with seperate features to drive you crazy  :BOOM:

It's true. Star Wars only gave me indigestion. Dark of the Moon made me throw up in my mouth.

I just saw the commercial again. And prime has his sword and shield from chernobyl. I'd say that's a very reasonable theory.

Well, if somebody remembers, there was a huge Jeep on the Chicago scenes, supposed to be Rollbar, who never showed up...
