With all the flaming Bay is being hit with who could've done a better job, Cameron, Spielberg even though he was part of the project?

Me. I love these movies, but honestly; I think I could have written and directed them better. If given the time and resources.

No. You couldn't. Don't bother try to debate me about it either because you're wrong. Period.

James Cameron? Hell no. The guy is over-rated.

But who could do a "better" job? Honestly? I have no idea. I think Bay did a fine job, he just got saddled with idiot writers.

Me, too.

Poor Bay, now I feel having mercy about him.

Paramount: Bay, we want 2 hours and 30 minutes movie and here is your money.
Spielberg: Bay, trust me. I made dinosaur movies.
Writers: Bay, here are the 5 page scripts. Good luck.

if the script was the only problem maybe.

but the poor editing, shaky camera too close to the action was bays fault imo

but writers takes lions share of the blame in fairness

Dont get to thinking that because 3 people are credited as writers that they were the only ones involved in the writing of the script.
The WGA looks are plot and story structure. Lines that don't add to that, such as jokes, are easily over looked. Also, who contributes the most is part of it.
Hard to blame the writers for ROTF, when they were filming without a script too. So, once Michael Bay went out and filmed some things, it needed to worked into the story.
Movies get re-writes throughout the process anyway.

The twins are a great example of the director having more creative control than the writers.
Studio's have a good amount of say in what happens and what goes. Michael Bay is at a point where it's my way or the highway, and he makes enough money that studios mostly, let him do what he wants.

So, with all that said, people I think could have done better as director...

Robert Zemeckis
Joe Johnson
David Twohy
Joe Dante
Barry Sonnenfeld
The Wachowski Brothers
John Landis
John McTiernan
Len Wiseman
Robert Rodriguez
Shawn Levy
Andrew Adamson
Matthew Vaughn
Stephen Sommers
Brett Ratner
Stephen Norrington

I could keep going, but really, I feel most directors would have adapted it better, and still made a widely successful action movie.

Ah, but the real question is, would they do it. Even Bay didn't want to tackle Transformers until Hasbro talked him into it. This is something people need to keep in mind. Michael Bay at least gave it a shot, while the rest said "no way!"

Yea probably because they knew how complex it would be and also didn't want to be taken apart by like people on this board & critics....

So, it comes down to, beggars can't be choosers. I still wonder if anyone would want the job. You all think it's easy, well, it's not.

I'm not really sure who said no to directing transformers. Do you have anything to back that up?
My knowledge is, Spielberg got on board as producers, his choice for director was Michael Bay, and they got him. I never heard any other name come up.

I know there was a director's call, and there was a lot pf producers before SPielberg that turned down the concept, but when no director is coming forward, doesn't bode well for the reputation of this franchise initially. And Bay reportedly even did the job at a discount. Look, I'm not happy either the way this ended up, but at the same time, I've read some disturbing things of what Spielberg and Paramount producers had in mind that was haulted with combination of Bay and Orci and Alex. One thing I heard, the producers didn't even want any of the robots to talk. Imagine, all of the communicating through the radio. Bays biggest problem though, he seemed to be the one that pushed for all of the military crap. And, I know that the Paramount execs wanted to scale back on the bigger bots and concentrate on the "minicons" like Wheelie and Brains.

What do you mean by directors coming forward? It's paramonts job to find and hire a director.
I really don't see much in the way of shopping the movie around through different directors. I suspect more than michael bay were approached, but I still haven't hear what names those are.

That's just it! It's real easy to sit back and be Monday morning quarterback not knowing the behind the scenes things that go on.

As far as the military, come on now we have aliens(which there are because they're not of earth) taking out our satellites, destroying bases, explosions throughout the world and the military is not supposed to get involved??

One thing around this time that made it more believable was actually seeing humans being taken out. All the explosions & shooting all around and no one gets hit?? Now that would've been something to legitimately complain about.

Did anyone complain about all the military in Independence Day??

Not sure who is responsible but these are my main gripes.

Transformers: We got most of the core G1 Characters for the autobots-Prime,Ironhide,Jazz,Ratchet and
Bumblebee  but we only get Megatron and Starscream for the cons. They used Devastator as a name for Brawl and also used Bonecrusher's name for that bot Prime killed. NO SOUNDWAVE :BANG_HEAD:

ROTF: I'll try to keep this brief. Hated the Twins! way too much screen time that couldve been used for other bots. Devastator was ruined. Soundwave gets less than 1 minute screentime and sounds like DR Claw. I thought Alice was retarded. I could go on but the rest is minor stuff.

Dotm: Not enough Soundwave or Shockwave!! :BANG_HEAD: I was looking forward to alot of screentime for both. Same for the new BADASS Megatron!!
