Dark Of The Moon - Over $500 Million Worldwide

In an explosion that would make even Michael Bay proud, Boxofficemojo is reporting that Transformers: Dark Of The Moon blazed past the $500 million mark world wide in just nine days on July 7. This beats the record set by the last two Pirates Of The Carribean movies which took ten days to hit that mark. Plus, Dark Of The Moon has yet to open in both Japan (July 29) and China (July 21).

If earnings continue on this pace, then DOTM should break the $600 million mark today, it's 11th day in theaters. This of course will break even more records as the last two Pirates movies took 12 days to accomplish this. If DOTM can hold it's own against Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 next weekend, then it could very well be the Ninth $1 Billion film in history.

As of July 7:

Domestic $213,975,424
+Foreign $297,084,874
Worldwide $511,060,298

Deathly Hallows will beat DOTM to $1 billion easily.

It's a shame too, I can't stand those movies.

Well we could get into the debate about what's better ... but instead, let's just agree to hate Twilight. 8)

Deathly Hallows and DOTM might end up with a pretty close total. They're both the conclusion of an extremely famous movie series. DH will probably win, like someone else said already.

This is the correct answer. Surprisingly, this answer can be used to end most debates.

Off topic: I can't imagine anyone finding fault in this logic. "Agree to hate Twilight" might bridge the rift between continuity fans! Burn has found the common bond!

On topic: An impressive engine of revenue generation! If nothing else.

I wish they would use number of tickets sold or number of people instead of US$. With movie tickets ever-increasing in price, dollar values (unless corrected, and even that is sketchy considered differing prices in differing markets) is hardly an accurate value… :-B

and this is why hasbro will never reboot the series like it needs to be, because the goddamn mindless masses keep shelling out millions to see shiny CGI and thousands of explosions. Im all up for mindless entertainment every now and then but you can still have that with a good story line and not ruining what use to be a great franchise.

I have missed your cheerful acceptance of the efforts of Bay and his crew. :BANG_HEAD:

These numbers are exactly why Transformers will continue. I expect another movie in 2-3 years. They have stumbled onto the perfect formula for success: a solid, money making franchise with a diverse rich history to draw from for ideas (ideas, not full stories), huge potential for excitement and action, and primary stars that never argue or disagree with the egotistical directors of Hollywood or demand more money as the franchise becomes more successful, as well as something that appeals to the broadest possible target audience and age group. Looking back now, I guarantee there are people in Hollywood saying, "Why the heck didn't we do this sooner? We could be soooooo much richer right now..."

Harry Potter will probably top it, disappointingly enough (I tried to read the books and got bored halfway through the first one). And yes, let's all hate Twilight. Real vampires don't glitter...they rip your throats out, killing you and drinking your blood and eating your organs to get every last drop. :-B

Everyone is saying Bay ruined TF! I honestly think he made it so much better!

Yeah ... let's not have another thread degenerate into Michael Bay bashing/worshipping. Let's just concentrate on the money figures.

And hatred of Twilight.

Transformers Dark of the Moon continues to be a box office juggernaut! According to Box Office Mojo the film earned an additional $47 million and fended off Horrible Bosses and Zookeeper to retain it's number one position over it's second weekend. Not only that, the film managed to edge out The Hangover Part II as the top grossing film of 2011. So far Transformers Dark of the Moon has earned $261 million domestically and $384 million in foreign markets for a total of $645 million worldwide. Very impressive considering the film has only been at theaters for twelve days!

I can easily say I did NOT expect almost another hundred million from Transformers this weekend. 30-40 million maybe, but good grief! And the movie still hasn't opened in China and Japan where it will easily pull in another couple hundred mill. I have to say, $1 billion is not out of reach at all...

DAYUM DOTM! I hope it's the highest grossing movie of the year, please let it be! And Bay still owes me my 2500.

Yeah! Stupid people that can't tell that Transformers is being RUINED right in front of them! Hmmph! How corrupted the fans have become...we need a boycott!

Fair enough. I like this idea.

I am very happy to see these money figures. Keep these ticket sales coming! :APPLAUSE:

Oh, and Twilight sucks. Horribly. I wish it would just vanish like the typical American Idol winner.

We need to take on Harry Potter next week. It'd be awesome if all of the Transformers fansites could organize a "go see Transformers 3 next weekend" instead of Harry Potter.

There's no "probably" about it. Even though I'm not a Harry Potter fan, that series is an unstoppable juggernaut. We're talking about one of the most popular movie franchises of all time, and it's no secret more people always check out the finale to a series whether it be in theaters, on TV etc....

What's really important here is that this guarantees us even more Transformers movies, (not that we didn't know that already). :D
