Public Apology In Response to Death Threats Aimed at Michael Bay

PostPosted: Wed Jun 20, 2007 8:05 pm
by Mr. Kemp
Dear Mr. Bay:

In an interview with Starpulse News Blog, you mentioned receiving death threats from irate Transformers fans in response to your new movie (which, by the way, I hope is a stunning success). These "fans" are only a lunatic fringe of the Transformers fandom; they don't represent the actual fandom. Decent fans, myself included, are ashamed by these threats and the people that sent them.

To be honest, I'm sorry that it happened, and I wish that the threats were never sent to begin with.

Sincerely,

Mr. Kemp (and any fan who wants to agree with me by posting below.)

I'm definatly one of the silent (until now) TF fans that glad he's moved far away from G1.

I've seen G1.. I loved it... I don't want another one.

I'm glad there is no mass shifting, it used to (still does) **** me to tears.

I like the shard effect of the new TFs, if your gonna hide an entire robot in a cars shell, they are gonna all be relativly small parts that make up the whole.

More importantly, its a god damn transformers movie made in 2007 with ILM! Its going to be awesome regardless. If you genuinly hate it because of the evolution of the franchise it is YOUR loss... not Mr Bays fault.

I'd be a hypocrite not to post, huh?

I wish transfans, in general, were a happier bunch of people. Passionate bunch, it seems. But nothing excuses that kind of behavior. Not one thing.

Sorry, Michael.

This kind of behavior is unacceptable, movie designs or not! I dig the new designs, while others may not like them, but to threaten someone's life is just ludicrous. I hope it isn't too late to make a positive impact on the movie franchise.

I like the movie designs.

And if Mr. Bay is reading, I also liked Armageddon. :D

I like what Micheal Bay has done with the Transformers, bringing the theme "Robots in Dsiguise" into a real life concept

Mike, can I call you Mike?, we're not all like that asshole.

I think you f'ed up in some places, but you're not the studio either so who really knows?

Hollywood is Hollywood and people have to learn what to expect and plan their lives accordingly.

I can't wait to go to this flick with a big group of brand new CGI-school friends and have my ears blown out and my guts ruptured with beer and popcorn, all the while losing my mind at the sheer complexity of these designs that I know I will someday emulate and surpass.

Here's to you and your mindless explosions and I too apologize profusely for what you probably never dreamed of in all your wildest days, especially from a "toy movie".

Can't wait for the 3rd.

I don't care what other people think, Michael Bay's one of my favorite directors. From what I've seen, I like the direction as to where this movie's going. I'm sure that I'm going to enjoy it. I can't imagine any other director doing this project, and so Spielberg did an excellent choice in picking him.

So in behalf of these jerk-offs, Mr. Bay, we apologize.

I can't believe some people have issued death threats! I'm a big longtime fan of Transfomers and especially G1 but I don't want him dead. If your not big on the new designs or where Bay has taken Transformers, don't see or support the movie then. Stay away from adaptations(both comic & novel) and all the toys and merchandise coming from it. That is the most effective thing you can really do. I may not agree with your feelings on it but I respect those actions for that is what I would do too in that situation.
As for Bay, I really don't mind him. The designs look pretty nice(except for Megatron) and Bay went for a new mechanical design instead of the boxy ones from the 80's. But from what I know of the movie they are still the same bots we grew up with.
And another good thing about Bay is that he is no stranger to special effects or actions seqeunces. Actually in his worst movie, Pearl Harbor, the Japanese attack sequence was amazing and was the best part of the movie. The rest I coulda went without. Bay has a great way of putting that stuff together, add in the fact Speilberg is watching over the whole thing. So with Transformer, ya can't go too wrong right?
Plus I did love the movie "The Rock"

I'm not that big in to the whole 'kill people for a toyline' thing. You don't have anything to worry about from me. Mr. Murphy on the other hand...

I'm not a die hard transformers fan. In fact, I'm not even as big of a fan as most people on these boards are. I am however appalled that such a juvenile act would be committed for a movie that is going to be so spectacular. Michael Bay, you have done a great job on this and you can count on me seeing this movie more than once in theatres.

Michael, I am quite sorry as well that you've been threatened in that manner. I am eagerly looking forward to the movie and plan on seeing it twice. Those threats come from a terrible few that do not by any means represent the fandom as a whole. I myself grew up on the original toys and cartoons. I heard what the studio had to say when they announced in the first place that this movie would not be a live version of the original bots. And I have respected that since the decision to make this movie. I am confident that you put forth your best effort to make a great movie and hope it successful for you.

I can't say that i'm a big fan of any of your movies.. I thought the Rock was cheesy, the Bad Boys movies were action, but still cheesy..I couldn't stand armageddon, Mostly because of Ben Affleck.. i don't like his acting..he always seems to be faking everything..I wasn't too fond of Pearl Harbor either...big love story.. but in hell??? Not very cool, and always cheapass jokes...

My advice watch the movie the last action hero... it shows All those Hollywood action movie cliches, and which seem to be in every movie you have done before.. which is why I don't buy them...I had enough with Die hard, Rambo, Terminator, ect.. ect...

But in Transformers you may have broken down a few Barriers..

I for one was upset at the new look, direction, and story ..not to mention when I heard you were directing it, I just sat back and thought of the previous movies you did, none of which i own on DVD, and was like ohh No!!! its a military homage and car chase movie with a few CGI scenes of giant robots!!! this is gonna suck and have no story...

I got over it..

I found out what your doing is actually great, and though I complained alot on this and other message boards.. I would never threaten anything directly at you..

I don't think that fans should make death threats.. and I'm sorry if any Transfan has.. thats uncalled for and really stupid of anyone to say or do..

Apologies

+3 as there's two guys in the office who agree.

I wasn't expecting the gaps that there were in Spiderman 3 but have still seen it twice and feel good when I can help friends out with some back story and unless incessant ranting is going to kill you, don't listen to these egotistic morons with a probable napoleon complex.

Hollywood is about money, if people want to show dissatisfaction DON'T WATCH IT. I'd put a tenner on the fact that say 90% of death threatters will go see it even just 'out of interest'.

MECHA..

Pfft. 2 death threat threads?

Might as well just paste then.

Just about EVERY person who's EVER made a movie gets death threats, simply based on the law of averages versus wackos in the population.

THIS STORY IS NOTHING MORE THAN MICHAEL BAY ATTEMPTING TO GET SYMPATHY.

This "shocking story" is just boob bait for morons, so they'll go, "Woah, death threats? I might not be too happy with Bay, but he doesn't desrve to DIE!"

...followed by going out and watching it...

Stop being suckers, people.

And, somewhere out in Hollywood, an arrogant jackass laughs...

You're an asshole. If someone threatened your life, I'm sure you would tell someone about it, too! Just because someone thinks Bay doesn't need to die doesn't mean they're going to go see his movie, either.
Christ, think before you post, especially if you're not going to post an apology in an .apology thread.

this thread is so stupid.....some of yall need to get off this mans dick....you do know that bay does not need daily love letters from board members right...what if yall woke up and finally realized that bay does not care about these boards or the fans....he makes movies for the money and nothing else....here is another grain of salt for you all, what if he wasnt even serious about the death threats in that interview....im sure he has been through it all before and knows its never serious and just bullshit.

I'm in agreement w/ the above. Transfans sending death threats are people who need to grow up. I'm fired up that at 36 years of age I get to even see my childhood heroes in a live action movie. Three of them in fact. I plan on seeing this movie @least once every weekend.
