Whatculture.com has posted an interview with Dark Of The Moon ASC Visual Effects Supervisor Scott Farrar. This interview comes just in time for what is being called Transformers: Dark Of The Moon DVD/Blu-Ray Triple Play out Monday, November 28. This newest Dark Of The Moon release contains a DVD, Blu-Ray and a Digital copy of the movie. However there are still no special features on this release. You can view the entire interview with Scott here. Below are a couple of interesting excerpts.

So new robots come to the fore, the biggest of those is Colossus. The building eating Decepticon was discussed in pre production and became the intimidating centre piece of the final Decepticon/Autobot/Human battle, But what work is involved with creating this beast of a transformer. As Scott nonchalantly states, it is “the largest asset that CGI has EVER built, so large in fact it was close to shutting our computer system down”. This transformer is two and a half times bigger than the Devastator transformer from Transformers 2 and its 16 assets (Head, Body, Tail, Legs x3, Arms x5, Grabber, Arm extensions, and Guts) are formed from 86,823 pieces of geometry and is 68 miles from head to tail. Those mind blowing numbers mean that the CGI artists need to create 1.3 million pieces of data to create this monster, which then needed to be animated into movement

It is these little facts, like the creation of the face of Sentinel Prime, which makes the film so unique, as Scott states “It’s not about the whole musculature area of the face, it’s the little nuanced gliding parts….there are 100’s of pieces of metal moving” and so, as in Scott’s words, “Michael is notoriously slow in selecting his actors for voices” they pitched idea’s for principle character’s and so they pitched Sentinel Prime as Sean Connery, as the picture below highlights.

So Sean Connery was first considered to voice Sentinel? Nothing against Nimoy, but I would have liked to see (hear) that.

The 3-pack also won't have any special features? Well then I might as well get the DVD that's already out. :?

LOL. There was a version that came out on release day with BD, DVD, & DC. XD I got it so that I wouldn't have to worry about quality/compatability issues whenever the one with stuff on it finally does come out on one/ multiple versions (so if it was on the BD, I still have DVD when I don't want to watch on my PS3, or so I have BD when I want to watch in HD, etc.). :P
At this point I'd buy the features seperately...Speaking of which, it'd be nice if movies did that. Sort of like how they sell soundtracks seperately, they can now probably get away with selling special features ALL on one thing. Good luck getting them to do it though... :/

First no TF-Prime on Blu Ray and now the second home media release of the 5th(?) highest grossing movie of all time with *NO* extras?

Somebody at Hasbros media dept really needs to get a grip of thier licensees. A double dip I get from a marketing perspective, but a potential triple dip? In this economy?

They're taking the pi$$ IMO....

So this is essentially the EXACT SAME combo that's out now. With slight re-branding. And the same cover image. And no special features, granted that it would all be Michael Bay again stroking is coc... I mean ego, again about how everything was his idea, how he designed the characters and decided on the final actors for this movie as well as designing and building all of the computer models, etc.

This is just sad that Paramount/ Dreamworks/ Hasbro thinks this is a good idea to try to get us to buy literally the exact same product twice, as well as expect us to buy the trilogy pack coming out, and then the version of this with special features. So that would be not double dipping, not triple dipping, but Quintuple dipping. QUINTUPLE!!! FIVE times for the same movie (OK really 4 times, and once for a pack with the first two, but that's not the point).

Screw this, where's my torrent program at....
