New vs Old design - difficult to sell to kids

I really like the new designs for the movie. They work. They look realistic and look great in action. I'm by no means a purist of any sort..

but today when I was at Target they had a few coloring and picture books and I have to say that the new designs on paper are not very appealing. They dont have much character as the old style. Too many angles and too complex looking. The coloring book really stood out as something that I would never purchase for a young kid. The uncolored TFers looked messy and difficult to distinguish from the background.

Now in video on commercials and the bits and pieces i have seen, the designs work. Work extraordinarily well in fact.

The toys of the new design are so-so. Just dont have that same character appeal as the older designs.

Not sure what kids think.. i dont have them.. curious to see how that will pan out.

I agree that the new designs are not very suitable for a colouring book, but I think the designs do appeal to kids.

From all the kids I've seen drawn to the Transformer's aisle display at my local Wal-Mart, and to the aisle display at my local Toys R Us, it seems that kids are responding to these designs.

I have to agree.

Yet the Spiderman 3 s*** sits, and sits, and sits...

Very telling, I think.

they should appeal to kids about 10 years old or so. im 15, and they still appeal to me. i like how they are more complex and realistic.

Maybe the kid think they look less...kiddy?

My kids like them and their 7, 5, and 4. I really like them too, most are challenging to transform the first time and I think thats what most people want from their new transformers. The kids dont have too much trouble with the deluxe fiqures and are decently challenged with Voyager class. All around cool toys.

I just like them for the complex designs.
