Entertainment website, Variety.com, is reporting that Transformers opened up pretty strong on its first night by wrapping its robotic hands around an estimated $8.1 million dollars. Ratatouille and Die Hard 4 also performed well yesterday by fetching $7.5 million and $4.3 million respectively. Click here to read the full article at Variety.com. Please note that it seems that something isn't working properly worth their website at the moment and that you will need to scroll down a little bit to read the actual article.

Not bad, considering it was only showing at 2 time slots last night. Wonder what it'll do tonight?

So for 3000 cinemas, is that a good or bad effort?

It seemed like there was a lot of confusion over when opening night actually was. It was pretty packed where I was, but a lot of people I talked to thought it was still opening on the 3rd, and had gotten tickets for the 3rd instead.

But anyway, so far, so good.

I believe that's more people than went to see the original TF movie total....

Variety.com: "On Memorial Day, Disney's "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End" also slipped into theaters the night before its official opening, making an estimated $13 million in ticket sales."

Considering that it cost $300 million to make Pirates 3 and only $150 million for Transformers, I'd say for Paramount and all who are financially involved with the Transformers movie that this is HUGE.

I like the Bernie Mac icon. That should go on on financial news announcements.

Thats not a bad effort, considering all the confusion about opening dates.

Its about the same as what a country with a population of 21 million managed to make the film in 3 days.

I cound NOT get tickets for opening day/night showings here.

I went by 3 theaters, even before they were opened, there were LONG lines at all of them...I doubt they were clamoring for RatPieceOfS***.

Just a guess there.

I JUST got tickets for tomorrow, for the only slot still open: 11:00AM.

I don't know about you guys, but here in Austin, Texas...the hype for this film is HUGE. Everyone is talking about the trailers at work.

It is not just TransFans that are stoked.

My wife was quick to point out all of the Transfans that went to go see it today when we went. You'd see a mother and her kids, a dad and his kids, a family, then you would see a lone man wander in and take a seat by himself. Then another. And another. Transfans? I think so.
