would it have really changed the atmosphere of the movie (in any way) if welker would have voiced megatron (like in the tftm game) instead of hugo weaving? i mean, he literally says 6 lines. I think welker sounded fine in the video game, i just find it hard to believe he wouldn't have worked as the voice in the movie. Especially if cullen did prime (which many say saved the movie - but that is another thread alltogether)would it have really changed anything, did it really matter that much?
i like the movie, i'm slowly liking the toys, but after everything now has been said and done, i just feel a little bummed that megs sounds like megs, except for in the movie. i've always felt, if we're going to take it there, let's take it all the way. why go just half of the way with cullen, and then have welker do megs in the video game and anything else, but use weaving as the voice in the movie. did hugo weaaving's fanbase draw that much more of a crowd?

Weaving did just fine.
I wouldn't have liked Welker doing it me thinks

It might've been a little bit nicer, (Megatron has a lot more lines that I expected) but Weaving worked just as nicely.

Weaving has a better megatron than welker does (in this live action version)

after hearing welker in the game, i kinda think i like weaving better. i just dont find welker's wispy(?) voice very matching with megatron in this movie. he needs to sound really evil, not old. (im not sayin welker is bad soo dont go crazy now)

Weaving was fine, but you couldnt tell it was him one bit. Sooooooo if a voice is that unreconizable and put through a million voice filters, why not just let welker do it as an honor? I actually thought it sounded a yeensy bit like welker anyway.

Weaving sounded great and handled the role well, but for 6 lines Bay should have just thrown the fans a bone and cast Welker.

Welker's voice has changed too much. That is the reason Bay didn't use him. Weaving did a great job. He made Megs sound ruthless and deadly with a touch of sarcasm and wit. Listen to Welker in the game and on the TF: the Movie bonus features. He sounds terrible. Peter made Optimus sound a little bit older and wiser and it fit the new design. Charlie Adler did a great job as Starscream too. His version was very close to Chris Latta's.

Insufficient screen time overall

I was able to connect with Prime primarily through Peter Cullen. It felt like the same character to me. The rest of the Bots, including Megs, didn't get enough screen time for me to develop a taste for them though I did like what I heard of Weaving.
All of the Bots were very underused in the film in favor of more screen time for Shia and Megan Fox...that was unfortunate IMO.

I haven't heard Welker in the new game, so I can't relate to those who have heard him lately. I have heard him on the Game website and he sounds like...uhmm? - Megatron. Weaving was OK, you know not bad, but not memorable either. That isn't linked to Weaving as an actor, but the writers and their writing.
I was thinking, if Cullen is such a great voice actor and Welker is as well; why wouldn't Welker be better than Weaving. I mean Cullen kicked Weavings butt into space on that scale. The bottom line is that Cullen is the star of that movie. I hope anyone who watches that movie recognizes how special he is.
I'm a little dissappointed in the hard core fans saying things like Welker doesn't fit this version of Megatron. Could it be that this Megatron doesn't fit Transformers very well? By that I don't mean Megatron's design. It's possible to have that design, Megatron being evil and what entertaining.
One thing I really like about Megatron's design is that he is silver or metalic like in the G1 series. But the way he and the decepticons were written keep them distant from the audience. That's bad design in any genre of story telling. So, I hope they give Welker a try next time, who knows he might be that second lung this franchise needs to breath properly.

At least for the live action design, I like Weaving way better. No disrespect for Welker though, I like him too.

I never thought I'd agree, but I do. After playing the game and seeing the movie, Weavings voice fits better.

i cant remember clearly, but didnt Welker refuse to take part in voicing a character in the movie after not gettin megatron?
but maybe he will voice someone in the next one. we all said he was voicing bonecrusher when we heard him yell while falling off the highway bridge. maybe in the next one, bonecrusher will come back, and actually talk more and have it be welker's voice.

i don't think he refused.. they jsut decided not to use him.. going to see the flick again today, see if my mood changes. thanks for the all the non confrontational input on this thread.. it shows we can talk about conflicting opinions without resorting to bay-lover or g1'er..

does it matter who voiced megatron anyway?
a MAJOR ball was dropped as far as the relationship between starscream and megatron anyhow. they could have done something and instead they settled for nothing.

Megatron's airtime was not enough for it to matter.
Same with his likeness.

So many more lines could have come from Megs if it had been Welker. There could have been a lot more tension between Megs and SS and, frankly, I was sitting and waiting for Prime to say "One shall stand, one shall fall" and when he finally did the camera wasn't on him and it wasn't used appropriately.
Cullen and Welker go together like Holmes and Moriarty or Homer and Flanders or PB and Jelly. One without the other was completely lacking.
Also, they had Weaving, but they didn't even come up with good lines that work for him and his voice. How about something alluding to Agent Smith like have Megs say "Humans are a disease, Prime."
The writers' really didn't know what to do with the dialogue.

Regardless I loved Weaving as Megatron. Granted it was through a filter or two, but I could still tell it was him....Poor Jazz.

Weaving's Megatron sounded like Leonard Nimoy's Galvatron.

I don't know if anyone has mentioned, but I thought Weaving sounded just like Welker as a direct homage, but maybe that's just me.

yep.....thats just what i thought also....the movie ticket sales would have been blown out of the water if they had used nimoy as the voice of megs instead of copying it....them trek fans are crazy

Weavings performance was ok, given the material he had to work with. I dont think he was the right fit though, as at times it was hard to make out what he was saying. The voice came off as too low key or relaxed. Also there were times when I could hear that it was Weaving. I think Welker would have been able to pull it off and do it better. At least they could have done it for the fans given that there were so few lines for Megatron in the first place.
