it doesnt matter if the entire world knows about them they still need to blend in. Autobots dont want to stick out cause then Decepticons will shoot at them all the time thus endangering humans. Lets say leadfoot there is patrolling a neighborhood, blitzwing & skywarp are flying around & they see a race car decked out in heavy weapons, what do you think happens next? Massive firefight & plenty of dead humans & blown up buildings. Easily avoidable if leadfoot was a dodge charger or a pickup. Decepticons want to blend in so that the autobots wont know when or where they will strike from. Bumblebee is driving along he sees a tank sitting in an alley do you really think hes just going to keep driving? This very basic concept has been lost on you, Bay & hasbro.
A few things are wrong with your logic..
1.- We have no clue what Leadfoot's role is in this movie. IN DOTM, the wreakers were never let off the base, so they had no need to really be in "disguise".
2.- This is a movie. I'm sure that mini vans and family sedans would make better disguises, but the truth of the matter is no one wants to see them as TF.
3.- The concept has been lost on Bay and Hasbro? Seriously? Exotic and ridiculous alt modes have been going on since G1. Red tank? Red A-10 warthog? Porsche 359?.. F1 race cars cruising the streets? Ya, those were real undercover.
4.- This is a movie
5.- I want cool alt modes as toys. Not average cars I can see everyday. ( I know this is subjective, but in most cases a modified or "rare" car is going to be more welcomed that a Honda Civic hybrid)
6.- This is a movie- Flash sells.
